Sony Xperia Pro with professional camera goes on sale for $ 2,499

It’s common for the Japanese company Sony to announce a smartphone and start selling it only six months later. But it seems that the flagship Sony Xperia Pro has broken all records in this regard. It was presented on February 24, 2020, but it did not go on sale until 11 months later. At the same time, the price of the model can scare away many.

The company focuses on cameras, calling them professional. The smartphone itself is positioned as a workstation for photographers and content creators. It is equipped with a Quad camera with three 12MP optical modules and a 0.3MP ToF 3D sensor for better background blurring.

The Sony Xperia Pro has optical stabilization, 3x lossless zoom, and every module, including the ultra-wide-angle one, has a Dual Pixel phase detection autofocus. You can shoot video in 4K ULTRA HD at 24 FPS, 25 FPS, 30 FPS and 60 FPS with HDR.

Despite the identical resolution, the sensors are used differently. The main module contains a 1 / 1.7 ”optical format image sensor with 1.8-micron pixels. Optics aperture – f / 1.7. For the telephoto lens, a 1 / 3.4 ”matrix with 1.0 µm pixels is selected. The lens aperture is f / 2.4. The ultra-wide-angle camera has a 1 / 2.55 ”type sensor with 1.4-micron pixels. Judging by the description, we are talking about the Sony IMX363. Aperture – f / 2.2. The capture angle is 124 degrees.

The hardware platform of the Sony Xperia Pro is built around a 7nm Snapdragon 865 mobile processor with a frequency of up to 2.84 GHz and Adreno 650 graphics. The single-chip system is paired with 12 GB of RAM. The built-in flash drive has a capacity of 512 GB. The battery with a capacity of 4000 mAh with 21-watt fast charging is responsible for autonomy.

The body of the flagship consists of two glass panels of Gorilla Glass 6 and an aluminum frame between them. Water and dust resistant to IP65 and IP68 standards. On the front side there is a display with a resolution of 1644 x 3840 pixels, the diagonal of which is 6.5 inches. The OLED panel supports HDR BT.2020. The pixel density is 643 dpi.

The software platform is the operating system Android 10. One of the flagship’s features is support for Sony Alpha cameras. For this, a micro-HDMI port is provided. When the camera is connected, the smartphone is used as an external monitor. Among other things, we note a side fingerprint scanner, an 8-megapixel front camera, support for fifth generation mobile networks, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.1, Near Field Communication and stereo speakers.

The Sony Xperia Pro has a MSRP of $ 2,499. So far, the model is only available in the US market. The Japanese company promises to announce a 4G version of the smartphone in the near future, but knowing Sony, this may not happen this year.
