The AMD X570 chipset was released at the same time as the third generation Ryzen (like the Ryzen 5 3600X tested previously). Even if it is the first to support PCI-E 4.0, the price of motherboards is quite dissuasive (minimum € 200) and they are reserved for high-end machines. After the X570-E Gaming, we are back at Asus today with a slightly less high-end model, the Prime X570 Pro. Offered at 300 € all the same, let’s see what she has in her stomach!

Characteristics

The Prime range from Asus departs somewhat from the manufacturer’s ROG models. Rather, it is intended for people who need all the recent features but not bother with the unnecessary. The Prime X570 Pro is a prime example. On the program, a standard ATX format of 30.5 x 24.4 cm (no problem for all ATX boxes on the market therefore) and of course the latest AMD X570 chipset to date. It is possible to install the second and third generation AMD Ryzen CPUs as well as the first and second generation APUs. The first generation Ryzen (type Ryzen 7 1700X) are therefore not compatible, this is something to consider when buying, or if you have an old processor and just want to update the motherboard. .

The Prime X570 Pro is equipped with ten PCI-E 4.0 ports in total, three 16X (wired in 16/8 / 4X) and three 1X. Multi-GPU is possible, both at Nvidia (two cards in SLI) and AMD (two or three cards in CrossFire). But in this case, the first PCI-E 16X port will change to 8X and you will have an 8X / 8X configuration. Note that PCI-E only work in 4.0 with a third generation Ryzen CPU and switch to 3.0 otherwise.

When releasing the Ryzen 3000, AMD insisted on supporting high-frequency memory modules. Like the X570-E Gaming, this once again seems to be the case on this Prime X570 Pro. Indeed, it is possible to install four DDR4 modules going up to 4400 MHz for a total of 128 GB. Note as usual, and we cannot insist enough on this point, that you must imperatively look at the list. compatibility of memory kits on the manufacturer’s website if you absolutely want a high frequency (from 3200 MHz). This list is available here, it will avoid compatibility problems with crashes under Windows or even black screens when activating the DOCP option (equivalent of XMP for Intel).

Regarding the on-board functions, the network part is entrusted to Intel with its i211-AT Gigabit (no WiFi on this model, the X570-E Gaming has 802.11ac 2 × 2 WiFi) and the audio to a chip Realtek S1220A. The latter is accompanied by high-end capacitors, just like the X570-E Gaming. These are the essentials and largely sufficient components as long as you do not need a 10 Gigabit network, or if you do not have a high-end HiFi audio system (we are not talking about a sound kit). The connection is not forgotten, with no less than seven USB ports on the back (USB 2.0, 3.2 Type A and C, all the click is there) and four internal headers (2 x USB 2.0, 1 x USB 3.2 Type A and C).
