[Test] Asus ROG Strix RX 5600 XT TOP
| Specs | Price –

Hi all !

We no longer present Asus, which offers a number of products, from motherboards (which are the manufacturers’ first loves when everyone still called it Asustek) to peripherals and graphics cards. And it is indeed one of the latter that is being tested today, the ROG Strix RX 5600 XT OC! The Radeon RX 5600 XT were released last week and are therefore one of the first models to hit the market. As you probably know, the ROG Strix often comes at the top of the basket, both in terms of functionality and build quality, but also unfortunately price. As proof, our model is sold for a whopping € 440, which is more expensive than the entry-level RTX 2060 Super but also € 120 more than the Sapphire RX 5600 XT. Can the card stand out at such a high rate? This is what we will see!

We’re not going to go back to the new Radeon RX 5600 XT GPU itself, we already did last week. If you want to know more, do not hesitate to consult our test which says more! On the other hand, we can clearly comment on the technical characteristics of the beast. We have mentioned the last minute BIOS updates for all these cards, trying to counter the drop in price of the Nvidia RTX 2060 to around € 320, it also happened on the ROG Strix. Indeed, the operating frequencies are now particularly high. Like the Sapphire Pulse, the card from Asus also has two BIOS, the Quiet and Performance. In terms of frequencies, however, they are both identical and reach 1670 MHz in “game” mode against 1750 MHz at most. It’s also good to see better than the card from Sapphire and corresponds to a consequent overclocking compared to the basic technical characteristics of the RX 5600 XT. To compare, it’s more or less the same as the Sapphire (which is about 5% more efficient than an RTX 2060 in this mode). Let’s not forget either the memory which remains at 1750 MHz, that is to say an overclocking of 250 MHz compared to a base RX 5600 XT. Basically, we are facing a card overclocked almost to the maximum, a small RX 5700 if you prefer.

Another small difference is also made between the two BIOS, the consumption of the card. When BIOS Quiet maintains a TDP of 150 Watts with a smoother fan curve, the Performance increases this value to 170 Watts in addition to having aggressive ventilation. Basically, you are clearly not in front of a “simple” RX 5600 XT which is confined to base frequencies, and the results should be widely better than a card respecting AMD values (around 15% according to our tests). Of course, you are entitled to RGB via the logo on the edge and two piping on both sides of the fans and a 4-pin RGV connector on the back. The ventilation is semi passive (fans off below 50 ° C) and you even have two 4-pins for external fans if needed.
