The ambassador explained how attempts to replace Russian gas will affect Europe

MOSCOW, 27 Aug – PRIME. The EU’s intentions to replace gas from Russia with African gas can seriously affect the European economy, since it is not clear when the project can be implemented, and the cost of such gas will be clearly higher, Augusto da Silva Cunha, Angola’s ambassador to the Russian Federation, said in an interview with RIA Novosti.

Medvedev said that Russia does not want to shut off gas to Europe

“The import of this product (gas – ed.) from Africa can seriously affect the European economy, since its cost will be clearly higher than gas from Russia,” he said.

At the same time, answering a question about how Angola views the position of Brussels, which wants to work more with African countries to replace Russian gas, the diplomat replied that the EU countries are “free and free” to negotiate with those who want to sell gas.

“We heard the statement of the German Chancellor that it is necessary to work on a gas pipeline project through the Iberian Peninsula, in particular, so that it goes through Portugal and from there it is distributed to European countries. It is not known whether it was about a gas pipeline that will go from Nigeria. But it is not known, how long will it take for this project to go from paper to implementation, and what will be the situation in Europe,” concluded da Silva Cunha.
