The European Commission was accused of inaction in the context of the aggravation of the energy crisis
MOSCOW, 3 Sep — PRIME. The European Commission has not yet presented any concrete proposals on how to reduce electricity and gas prices, but waiting a few more weeks or months in the current situation is a luxury, said EU Council President Charles Michel.
“We did not discover the problem today,” he said in an interview with the German newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung and several other international media outlets. He explained that the EU Commission has not yet submitted any concrete proposals on how to reduce electricity and gas prices.
Although, according to him, the European Council, which includes representatives of 27 states and governments, has already discussed the problem for the first time in October last year and then more than once.
“And we asked the Commission several times to bring specific proposals to the table,” the politician added.
According to him, for the citizens, for families, for the business of the EU, the increase in gas and electricity prices is “a disaster.” “We don’t have a day to lose, we don’t have the luxury of waiting a few more weeks or months. The proposals need to be on the table as soon as possible,” Michel said.
