The European Union asked the EC to submit proposals to limit gas prices
BRUSSELS, September 9 — PRIME. Following an extraordinary meeting on Friday, EU energy ministers asked the European Commission to submit proposals “to limit gas prices,” Czech Minister of Industry and Trade Josef Sikela said at a press conference.
The Italian minister called the EU countries that supported the “ceiling” of gas prices
“We expect the EC to propose an emergency and temporary intervention, including capping gas prices,” he said.
Sikela also said that EU energy ministers have asked the European Commission to formulate proposals for a coordinated reduction in demand for electricity in the union.
“The ministers invited the commission to present measures for a coordinated reduction in the demand for electricity across the European Union,” the minister said.
In addition, they expect proposals from it to limit the profits of low-cost electricity producers.
