The former chairman of KDH was robbed of thousands of euros on Facebook in a crypto dewater

For many celebrities, businesses, and sites, paid advertising is the best way to promote on the world’s largest social network, which generates billions of dollars in marketing each year. However, this method of promotion can also be abused by fraudsters, who can deprive real account managers of considerable funds. The latest chairman of such a scam was paid for by the former chairman of KDH, Alojz Hlina, who posted on Facebook informed that hackers ordered ads for thousands of euros through an advertising account.

They paid for expensive advertising through fraud

According to the policy, the fraudsters targeted cryptocurrency-oriented Facebook users, promoting the advertisement itself in Central Europe. There was probably a situation where fraudsters gained control of an advertising account through which they paid advertisements in the amount of 13,000 euros. It all started with a scam on behalf of Facebook.

According to the information available, the fraudsters tried to deceive the administrator of the advertising account with fake emails stating that the site was promoting a copyrighted photograph without permission. Due to this, the email threatened to block the site itself, and in the end, the fraudster managed to gain control of the account itself, from which he subsequently paid his own advertisement illegally.

The scam appeared to support the social network Facebook, which, however, appeared under the dubious name “Fb page’s”. In this way, fraudsters could make a credible impression and then deceive and gain access to the account administrator. However, Hlina informed that they later contacted the actual support of Facebook, with which they agreed to return the amount for unauthorized advertising a month after the incident was reported.

They also recorded advertising fraud in the Czech Republic

However, in the environment of this social network, this is not the first or rare case of this kind. Already in the comments under the contribution of the former chairman of KDH, several experiences of other injured people who lost money in such fraud during unauthorized advertising appeared. At the same time, Facebook is already facing a large lawsuit for such frauds, directly from the neighboring Czech Republic.

However, the lawsuit of the owner of the King’s Resort casino involved an unauthorized advertisement directly for his casino, whose name was misused by fraudsters to attract players from whom they withdrew money. However, the casino itself at that time did not have a Facebook page from which to pay for advertising. The casino owner distanced himself from these ads and also alerted the fraud to Facebook.

However, the social network behaved differently in his case and the complaint was ignored, so Leon Tsoukernik, the owner of King’s Resort casinos, decided to file a lawsuit seeking damages in the amount of CZK 500 million. We have dealt with this topic in more detail in a separate article.

Even such cases are proof that Facebook is slowly failing to control and prevent fraud, even with its largest source of revenue – advertising. Unauthorized promotions can deprive site administrators of money, but fraud can also damage the names of companies that do not always seek redress.
