The overclockers they are already testing the limits of the GeForce RTX 4090or to be more precise those of the graphics chip AD102, using “exotic” cooling systems. The Brazilian team TecLab OCcaptained by Ronaldo Buassali, has pushed the GPU of a Galax RTX 4090 SG (Serious Gaming) up to 3,45 GHz with the help ofliquid nitrogen (but not only).

The impressive clock rate is the highest ever recorded for a GPU, but reaching it took a while edit the cardfor example by placing capacitors on the back side of the PCB and removing the power limit controller.

La Galax RTX 4090 SG in standard configuration it features a huge heatsink with three fans (plus an optional extra one) that allowed the overclockers to get to touch 3075 MHz. However, by applying higher operating voltages and especially liquid nitrogen cooling, the GPU managed to reach 3.45 GHz, while the memory is up to 24 Gbps.

At those frequencies, the card started showing signs of performance degradation and for this reason the overclockers had to reduce the clock between 3.27 and 3.36 GHz to run some benchmarks. At around 3.3 GHz the RTX 4090 was able to break 5 records in 3DMark Fire Strike Ultra, 3DMark Port Royal, 3DMark Time Spy Extreme Graphics, Superposition 1080p Extreme e Unigine Superposition 8.
