The head of the IAEA announced a violation of the physical integrity of the ZNPP

VIENNA, Sep 2 – PRIME. The experts of the IAEA mission were able to record traces of the shelling of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant. The physical integrity of the station has been repeatedly violated, said IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi.

According to him, traces of shelling on the buildings clearly indicate a violation of the physical integrity of the station.

“We see military activity around the station. I myself and my team saw holes, marks on the buildings from shelling. This means that the physical integrity was violated not once, but several times,” the head of the IAEA told reporters upon arrival in Vienna.

On Thursday, an IAEA mission headed by the head of the agency, Rafael Grossi, arrived at the Zaporozhye NPP. The head of the Rosatom delegation and employees of the Zaporizhzhya NPP led the IAEA delegation through its territory and showed the sections of the station that had been damaged during the shelling of Ukrainian troops. Mikhail Ulyanov, permanent representative of the Russian Federation to international organizations in Vienna, told RIA Novosti that two IAEA employees will remain at the Zaporozhye NPP on a permanent basis.

Zaporozhye NPP is located on the left bank of the Dnieper near the town of Energodar. This is the largest nuclear power plant in Europe in terms of the number of units and installed capacity – the plant has six power units with a capacity of 1 gigawatt each. Since March, it has been under the protection of the Russian military. The Russian Foreign Ministry emphasized that this step was justified in order to avoid leakage of nuclear and radioactive materials. The Ukrainian military continues to regularly shell Enerhodar and the territory of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant adjacent to the city.
