UN, Sep 2 – PRIME. The UN welcomes that the IAEA inspectors will be able to stay at the Zaporizhzhya NPP on a permanent basis, Eri Kaneko, an employee of the UN press service, said at a briefing.
The Kremlin positively assessed the arrival of the IAEA mission at ZNPP
“We welcome that two IAEA inspectors will be able to stay at the station and keep us informed of what is happening there,” Kaneko said.
Six employees of the agency work at the Zaporozhye NPP as part of the IAEA mission, in particular, from Spain, Jordan, Albania, Lithuania, Romania, a representative of Rosenergoatom told reporters earlier.
According to him, there is no information yet about which two specialists will remain at ZNPP.
Zaporozhye NPP is located on the left bank of the Dnieper near the town of Energodar. This is the largest nuclear power plant in Europe in terms of the number of units and installed capacity – the plant has six power units with a capacity of 1 gigawatt each. Since March, it has been under the protection of the Russian military. The Russian Foreign Ministry emphasized that this step was justified in order to avoid leakage of nuclear and radioactive materials. The Ukrainian military continues to regularly shell Enerhodar and the territory of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant adjacent to the city.
