The head of Uniper allowed another rise in gas prices for the Germans
BERLIN, Sep 3 – PRIME. The cost of gas for German consumers may rise again due to an increase in the surcharge that ensures the reliability of energy supply, says Klaus-Dieter Maubach, head of the German energy company Uniper.
He told the ZDF TV channel that if the current “very high” fuel prices continue, there may be a need to increase such a fee. At the same time, Maubach stressed that the likelihood of increasing the surcharge has yet to be assessed based on the cost of the energy resource on the market.
“It is not yet known whether it is necessary to increase it. It depends on the prices in the markets, in this case, in the gas markets,” he specified.
In October, the German government will introduce a gas levy of 2.4 eurocents per kilowatt-hour for a period of two years to ensure energy supply. Due to problems with the supply of Russian fuel, Germany is facing an energy collapse. Against this background, the country’s authorities have several times urged citizens to save energy.
