The Nvidia Geforce GTX 1000 and RTX series will coexist until the beginning of 2019

On September 20, Nvidia launches the new Geforce RTX 2000 series, which with the new architecture Turing will enable ray tracing in real time while machine learning (deep learning) is said to revolutionize future game titles. However, the road to a generational change seems to be drawn.

We will be selling probably for the holiday season, both our Turing and our Pascal overall architecture.

In conversations with analysts, CFO Colette Kress says that Nvidia has no plans in the near future to retire the Geforce GTX 1000 series. This will coexist with the RTX 2000 series at least during the Christmas trade 2018 and a bit into the year 2019.

► Nvidia unveils Geforce RTX 2000 series with “Turing” architecture

In the past, Nvidia has made rapid transitions to new series, but for this shift the company is said to be sitting on hundreds of thousands of unsold graphics circuits from the architecture Pascal, which makes up the GTX 1000 series. This is due to Nvidia scaling up production in connection with miningthe boom, which slowed sharply in late spring.

The fact that both series coexist for a long time does not come as a surprise considering the pricing of the Geforce RTX 2000 cards. The Geforce RTX 2080 Ti lands well above the current flagship GTX 1080 Ti, while the RTX 2080 should be around the same level when supply and prices stabilize. Geforce RTX 2070 goes into the same recommended price as GTX 1080.

Later in the year, Nvidia is also expected to launch a mid-range that is currently called the RTX 2060. Whether the GTX 1000 series will be reduced in price to better match the new lineup remains to be seen and also depends on how well the new models perform in more traditional scenarios that do not pull benefit from the RTX features.
