The President of Moldova doubts that Gazprom will reduce the price of gas for the country

MOSCOW, 26 Sep — PRIME. “Gazprom” is unlikely to reduce the price of gas for Moldova from October 1, said President Maia Sandu.

The contract between Gazprom and Moldovagaz provides for two formulas for calculating gas prices. From April to September, the cost consists of 70% of the average monthly gas price for the previous month (TTF front month) and 30% of the price of the oil basket. From October to March, 70% of the cost falls on the oil basket, and 30% on the average gas price.

“In the energy sector, we have no guarantees that Gazprom will fulfill the contract with Moldovagaz. According to this contract, from October 1, the price of gas should be significantly reduced for consumers from Moldova, it is Gazprom’s duty to comply with contractual obligations,” she said, adding that the Moldovan authorities have prepared for any scenario and are ready to provide assistance to citizens this winter.

Moldova is experiencing an energy crisis due to rising energy prices. Earlier, Deputy Prime Minister Andrei Spinu said that the authorities intend to reduce gas consumption in winter by at least 15%. At the same time, they developed and submitted for discussion a plan that includes turning off street lighting, lowering the central heating temperature, transferring schoolchildren and students to distance learning. On August 1, the Moldovagaz company began disconnecting consumers who did not pay for the services for the supply of natural gas on time.
