The result was reusable pollen paper

At Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, a reusable paper was created, which is obtained from the use of flower pollen such as those obtained on a regular basis from sunflower, camellia or lotus. It is a much greener solution in relation to recycling.

This new pollen-based paper means that it can be printed on or written on in a traditional way, and then chemically erased repeatedly. The process of creating it begins with the use of potassium hydroxide to remove the hard outer shell of individual pollen. The result is a soft internal gel gel which is cleaned by rinsing with deionized water.

The gel is then poured into a flat mold and allowed to air dry. After drying in the form of a 0.03 mm thick sheet, it is treated with acetic acid to make it insensitive to moisture. The resulting paper is translucent and softer than traditional paper, but can still be fed to traditional printers and use conventional toners.

As if that were not enough, the text and images remain on the paper even after the adhesive tape has been peeled off it or by placing the paper in water. It is enough to change the water to an alkaline solution at the same time and wait two minutes for the gel to swell and cause the toner layer to break down and peel off. The blank paper is then placed in ethanol for five minutes to allow the gel to shrink back to its former state, then dried before being treated with acetic acid again, and finally returning to exactly the original state of this reusable paper.
