In a new tweet, leaker @harukaze5719 simply said “RTX 4000 series or RTX 5000 series?” and he followed with a “Well… Whatever…”. It seems that we have a very hot rumor that NVIDIA could skip the GeForce RTX 40 series nomenclature and move to the GeForce RTX 50 series.

Let’s build conspiracies for a while…

Could it be that this name change is because it will have twice the performance of the GeForce RTX 3090? It would feel a bit strange to go from the RTX 3090 or the RTX 3090 Ti to an RTX 5090 with a performance of no more than 20%…

This may sound silly, but that’s how it works, that’s why Intel brought out their processors Core i3, Core i5, Core i7 and Core i9 where AMD copied the same scheme with its Ryzen 3, Ryzen 5, Ryzen 7 and Ryzen 9. The truth is that customers want to see those similar numbers (Core i7 vs Ryzen 7), and if the numbers are far behind the competitor, they would be surprised how many people who are not with the technicalities of the models, buy because of this… numbers are powerful.

In the next 6 months, we will see AMD’s new RDNA 3 architecture powering what Radeon RX 7000 series GPUs should be… Radeon RX 7000 series vs. GeForce RTX 4000 series… numbers rule and GeForce RTX 5000 definitely it would sound much more powerful for users.
