The Voyager X2 flying car began testing under extreme conditions

The XPeng company, which produces mainly cars, has also been developing their flying counterparts (read – large drones) for years, an example of which is Voyager X2, which reportedly started new test flights in extreme conditions.

Xpeng tirelessly develops Voyager X2, its fifth generation flying car

Xpeng Huitian, owned by Xpeng Motors, visited the recent Cengdu Motor Show with its flying taxi / car. It is worth emphasizing here that Voyager X2 does not replace Voyager X1, which was revealed in January, as it is still under development. “Iks-two” is just another project, which currently flies up to 35 minutes after take-off, can fly up to 1000 meters and accelerate to a maximum of about 130 km / h.

As an eVTOL, it does not lack the possibility of vertical take-off and landing, as well as being completely emission-free thanks to electric motors. These spin a total of eight propellers distributed in the same way as in traditional quadcopters with double propellers on one arm (via Weibo).

By itself, the Voyager X2 weighs approximately 395 kilograms, which applies to both its carbon body and battery. It is also the first Xpeng project equipped with a closed cockpit, necessary for flights at high altitudes, which can accommodate up to two passengers, or a load weighing up to 200 kg. They do not have to pilot it, because its system includes, among others autopilot functions following a pre-planned route.

These extreme tests involve not so much a flight in a thunderstorm or heavy rain, but a flight at high altitudes over cities in northwest China. Previously, Voyager X2 had, of course, already undergone several internal flight tests at airbases in Guangzhou, Dongguan and Jiangmen.
