Twitter admin account has been hacked

“Yesterday afternoon I hacked twitter.com, I got full access to the control panel, which was closed with .htaccess,” – such a message was posted by an unknown hacker on several forums. At first, users of these communities were very skeptical about the message, but soon, Twitter confirmed it.

Apparently, the hacker used social engineering to hack into the account of product manager Jason Goldman. “One of the administrators has an account on yahoo.com. Using the password recovery using a security question, I got access to the mailbox. Then, in the mailbox, I found the password on twitter,” the hacker wrote. Jason Goldman’s microblog posts confirm this.

The hacker gained access to administrative tools that allowed him to see mail addresses, IP addresses from which users log in, as well as lists of blocked users.

“Twitter takes the security of the service very seriously. We will conduct a full, independent security audit of all internal systems and will implement additional measures to prevent the recurrence of such situations, ”wrote the co-founder of Twitter in a corporate blog.

Recall that in early January, a hacker calling himself GMZ hacked into the account of another administrator of the service and published messages on behalf of Britney Spears, Barack Obama, Rick Sanchez and other famous people. GMZ claimed to have gained access to the account using a crude brute-force attack, the password turned out to be simple – “happiness”.
