Twitter to offer long-awaited editing option to paying followers

MOSCOW, Sep 1 — PRIME. Twitter Inc has announced that it will be launching a post editing option for paying subscribers in a few weeks.

Musk notifies Twitter of terminating merger agreement on new grounds

For years, Twitter users have been demanding the ability to edit their tweets after they’ve been posted to correct errors and typos. It was joked on the Internet that Twitter would rather launch any product, including online mailings, than allow its users to do what they most desire.

Now, users who pay $4.99 a month for Twitter Blue will soon finally be able to edit their tweets “several times” within 30 minutes of posting, Twitter said.

Almost every other social platform, including Facebook* and Instagram* from Meta Platform* (recognized as an extremist organization in Russia), as well as Reddit and Pinterest, has long had the ability to edit posts.

Twitter is currently in a legal battle with billionaire Elon Musk, who is trying to end a deal to buy the company for $44 billion.

In April, the same day Musk revealed his 9% stake on Twitter, he polled millions of followers about whether they needed an edit button. More than 70% answered in the affirmative.

Twitter has repeatedly argued with observers about whether editing tweets would lead to such negative consequences as spreading disinformation.

Edited tweets will have a special icon and a timestamp showing when they were last edited. Users will be able to click on this icon and see the edit history with previous versions of the post.

Twitter has already experimented with different variations of the edit button. Users of Twitter Blue, a paid subscription service, currently have access to an option to delay posting by up to one minute, allowing the user to review their tweet and unpost if necessary.

Asked if the edit button will eventually be available to all Twitter users, a company spokesperson said that Twitter is testing the option to “see ahead of time what might happen if we make it available to everyone.”
