MOSCOW, 7 Oct – PRIME. The United States is working to respond to the OPEC+ decision to cut oil production, including against Saudi Arabia, Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said Thursday.
OPEC+ agreed to cut oil production by two million barrels per day from November due to uncertainty around the global economy and forecasts for the oil market. The alliance will take the agreed production levels for August as a reference point.
“As for our future relations (with Saudi Arabia), we are considering a number of possible responses, consulting with Congress. We will not do anything that will be contrary to our interests, first of all,” he said during a press conference in Lima.
US President Joe Biden called the decision disappointing and short-sighted, saying the administration will consult with Congress on additional tools and opportunities to reduce OPEC’s control of energy costs.
