What is Magisk?

Magisk is currently the best alternative to Chainfire’s SuperSU. Developed by XDA developer topjohnwu, is indeed much better than SuperSU in some respects. No wonder it has become the default choice of custom ROM developers. Unlike SuperSU which grants or denies root permissions for specific applications, Magisk can completely hide the root from some applications. It means both the banking application, both Pokemon GO that before you could not use on your device, now they can work if you have done the root to your Android phone with Magisk.

The root app works flawlessly, since it does not modify the system partition in any way. This means that you can continue to install official OTA updates without losing the root. How to install Magisk on Android?

Prerequisites:

• Bootloader unlocked
• TWRP or any other custom recovery installed on your phone

How to install

1. Rooting can be done easily using a simple zip file that can be installed via a custom recovery. However, Magisk does not support all Android devices. If your device is not supported, it may hang on bootloop. So make sure you do a full Nandroid backup before rooting.
2. Download the latest version of Magisk Installer zip.
3. Transfer the downloaded zip file to your Android device.
4. Restart your device in recovery mode. Depending on the device, button combinations may vary.
5. If you are using TWRP recovery, select Install from the menu and select the Magisk zip file.
6. Swipe right to install.
7. The installer changes the boot image of the device and creates a new magisk.img partition in the root directory of your smartphone. It also places the necessary files in the / cache and / data partition.
8. If your phone is already rooted with anything other than MagiskSU, Magisk phh superuser or SuperSU without Chainfire system, the installer will try to delete the binary files and root application from the system partition as well. Otherwise, it won’t touch your system.
9. Once the app is installed, you will see the Reboot System option, tap on it.

If your device fails to boot, you can always go back to TWRP and restore the previous backup. But if your device boots, go to Google Play and install Magisk Manager. This is like having the SuperSU application and the Xposed Installer application all rolled into one. You can manage root settings and install modules with Magisk Manager. To hide the root of an application, you must first enable it in Magisk settings. Pull out the side menu by moving it from the left edge of the screen and go into settings. Activate the option called Magisk Hide. The option will then be enabled in the side menu. Now you can open and select the applications you want to hide.

To install these modules just start the custom recovery and install them as you have installed the app for the root.

How to use Magisk Manager on Android

One time installed Magic Manager, you will be presented with a variety of options to change the features. A simple swipe from the left reveals the navigation menu which will present you with a list of various options. Go to “Install” to check the version of Magisk you have installed on your device, as well as check for any updates. In case of updates, you can download and install the new version only from this section. If you go to the “Superuser” section, you can manage which applications you have granted or denied root privileges and modify them according to your needs. Then we find the “Modules” section.
