Asus lists the Radeon 300 series on forums

Earlier in May, AMD announced that the Radeon 300 series was available for OEM and at the same time confirmed that it was renamed graphics cards. This has led many to speculate that the series is only intended for ready-made systems, while more news is waiting for the launch for retail and home builders.

Shortly before the launch in June, Asus publishes the product names for five graphics cards from the Radeon 300 series on the company’s own forums. By all accounts, the data is in line with what has previously been published for OEMs, which is another indication that AMD’s upcoming series will largely be renamed models.

First of all, visible ASUS R9390X-DC2-8GD5, where the name reveals that the model is equipped with the company’s reputable cooler DirectCU II and 8 GB GDDR5. For the graphics card itself, it is about R9 390X, which is believed to be R9 290X in a new suit with higher clock frequencies, especially for video memory.

Furthermore, the Asus Radeon R9 380 and R9 370 are listed according to the semi-passive concept Strix, factory overclocking and with 2 GB and 4 GB GDDR5 respectively. Both the names and the amount of video memory correspond to the information AMD previously published about each model for OEM. This indicates that the R9 380 is the current R9 285 “Tonga” while the R9 370 is the former HD 7850 “Pitcairn”.

The last two models are the Asus Radeon R7 360 and R7 360X, both of which come with 2GB of GDDR5. Only the latter, however, gets a more expensive cooler (DC2) and factory overclocking, while the former by all accounts becomes a cheaper variant without significant added value.

Interestingly for the Radeon R7 360 Asus lists is that the suffix differs from the R9 360 AMD offers OEM. This could mean that there are some differences between the models. It is probable, however, that they are largely the same with few or no real exceptions and that they are based on the graphics processor Bonaire.

The launch of the Radeon 300 series is expected to take place in June, either as early as next week at Computex Taipei or shortly thereafter at the E3 gaming fair.
