MOSCOW, 6 Oct — PRIME. Moscow admits that Berlin may completely refuse to purchase gas from Russia in the next two years, but this will lead to an economic crisis in Germany, Oleg Tyapkin, director of the third European department of the Russian Foreign Ministry, told RIA Novosti.
“The complete refusal of Germany from Russian blue fuel over the next two years is quite acceptable. As for the consequences of this step, they are quite obvious now,” he said.
According to Tyapkin, such a measure could lead to an aggravation of the energy and economic crisis in Germany, a rapid rise in fuel prices, an outflow of foreign investment and production, a decrease in the competitiveness of the German economy and the purchasing power of the population.
Economics Minister and Vice-Chancellor of Germany Robert Habek has already acknowledged that the German economy is in danger and long-term damage due to high electricity prices, the diplomat recalled.
“Don’t ask me why Germany needs all this,” he concluded.
