Geforce RTX 3080 “Ampere” reaches maximum speeds of 2.1 GHz

This spring’s steady stream of leaks and rumors surrounding Nvidia’s next generation graphics card called “Ampere” has been as intense as the interest of technology enthusiasts. When Nvidia organizes a Geforce-signed event in early September, enthusiasts do not have to wait long for the official unveiling, but some details will have time to find their way out on the web before then.

The latest round of data comes in the form of performance results from the site Userbenchmark, results that have been deleted. On the internet, however, nothing is forgotten and the diligent Twitter reporter Rogame preserves the data to posterity. The details reveal, among other things, that the Geforce RTX 3080 can be BIOS-configured to the highest clock frequency 2,100 MHz, which is the same highest level as with the Turing cards in the Geforce RTX 2000 series.

Further details indicate that the graphics memory is of the GDDR6X type, which was recently confirmed by Micron who in connection with this also revealed the performance card Geforce RTX 3090. In terms of graphics memory capacity, the Geforce RTX 3080 is stated to be equipped with 10 GB GDDR6X, where the bandwidth reaches 19 Gbps. This is somewhat below the Geforce RTX 3090 which according to information gets 12 GB GDDR6X with the speed 21 Gbps.

All information and specifications are speculative

If Geforce RTX 3080, according to previous rumors, works over 320-bit memory interface, this means that the card will have a memory bandwidth of 760 GB / s, which is about 19 percent higher than what Geforce RTX 2080 Ti can handle. However, Rogame notes that the performance results from Userbenchmark are relatively low, which may be due to the fact that they were performed with previous drivers that lack the optimizations made before launches. Other results point in a more positive direction.

It is worth noting that the speeds of both the graphics processor (CLim) and the graphics memory (MLim) indicate the maximum capacity of the circuit, and do not necessarily represent the speeds that the Geforce RTX 3080 is equipped with in its Founder’s Editions or from partner manufacturers. Nvidia is hosting a Geforce event on September 1, where the company will probably lift the veil for the top cards in the Geforce RTX 3000 series.
