German retailer presents return figures for graphics cards

The German computer retailer Mindfactory has a history of impressive transparency when it comes to, among other things, sales figures, where they earlier this summer talked about how AMD processors were used like butter in the sunshine. Now the company has taken the statistics party beyond processor sales and instead chooses to deal with complaint figures for approximately 120,000 graphics cards sold from Nvidia’s and AMD’s latest generation.

The whole thing has been published in a now downloaded Google document, but fortunately there was a summary by Wccftech. Mindfactory’s statistics show, among other things, that the single most returned card was the Powercolors Red Devil RX 5700, with as much as 13.18 percent. The model series with the most crashes was instead Geforce RTX 2080 Ti, with 5 percent, while 3.29 percent of all AMD Radeon cards turned out to be defective.

The trend regarding both AMD and Nvidia is relatively clear – larger circuits fail more often. Especially at the beginning of the graphics circuit Turing and its life cycle, crashes were reported for RTX 2080 Ti and 2080, while simpler circuits such as AMD Radeon RX 5600 and especially GTX 1660 Ti have almost negligible return figures. Nvidia’s Super Cards, which reached the market after refining the manufacturing process, are also relatively spared from breakdowns.

When Mindfactory breaks down the return statistics per manufacturer of graphics cards with AMD graphics cards, Powercolor stands out with as much as 6 percent returned cards thanks to the previously mentioned mourning child Radeon RX 5700 Red Devil. Otherwise, the proportion of returned graphics cards is in the range of 2–3 percent, except for XFX, whose low number of cards sold is paired with what we assume are the effects of its Thicc cooler, which places the company’s return total at 4 percent.

For graphics cards equipped with Turing circuits in the RTX 2000 series, there are no direct significant trends in returns to talk about between manufacturers. Here it can instead be ascertained that MSI and KFA2, the current Galax, are the only manufacturers to blow up the 20,000 card wall for graphics cards sold. Palit is the only one to reach 4 percent of advertised cards, while the others are in the range of 2-3 percent.

In addition, Mindfactory has statistics at the model level, where the Powercolor Radeon RX 5700 Red Devil with its just over 13 percent advertised cards is joined by, among others, KFA2 and its Geforce RTX 2070 OC, which also reaches a 13 percent share of advertised cards. Elsewhere, above the 10 percent RTX 2080 Ti card from Gainward, MSI and Palit with 11 percent returns.
