What does it mean to mark a message as “unread” in a WhatsApp conversation?

When we receive or send messages to a contact, a chat bubble is created immediately and is active at the start of the application; and is identified with the name of the person. Likewise, the first line of the message they have sent also appears and on the right side a green circle that is in charge of notifying if there are new messages unread and how many are.

In this way, we can have control over the conversations that we have not opened, and the messages that we still have to answer. It is then, in case you have opened a conversation, but you cannot reply instantly, that WhatsApp allows you to mark the messages as if they were not read. This, so that said notification remains your reminder that there are messages pending response.

The circle no longer has the number of new messages inside, so the icon will appear, but empty. Thus, you will continue accessing the notification alert, and you will have a way to remember that there are some last messages attentive to your reading. What you should consider is that, in case of having read confirmations activated, the message will appear as read; this option is just for my own reminder, but it does not change its status.

However, you can use this resource if you want to highlight an important chat, which at the moment needs your attention, but is not so important as to fix the chat on WhatsApp. When you open the chat the mark will disappear, so the app takes each entry as a reading of what is inside. However, you can do this same simple procedure every time it is necessary.

How can I manage to mark a message as if it had not been read on WhatsApp to review later?

This is achieved through the very beginning, without having to enter the conversation itself: You can mark messages that you have opened even hours ago. If it is a chat that you just read, you should go back to the beginning and see the conversation as a window, as it appears when you open the app. After having located the chat you need, the following will be to leave it pressed for a few seconds until shaded with a grayish filter.

If you want to mark WhatsApp messages as read or unread, this is the moment to select all the contacts you want to remember: After the first one has been marked, you will only have to touch the others lightly and you will see that they are shaded just like the number one. By having both the chat in question and the group of conversations selected (if there are several windows to be marked) locate the three points in the upper right corner.

These points are the app menu, which in case of not having any selected message offers configuration actions. Having shaded conversations is the space to manage these chats; then, you must click and observe in the options that the option is displayed “Mark as unread”. Click on it, and you will immediately see the points we have told you about in the chosen conversations be placed … and voila!
