How to play Dungeon Defenders on Linux
Dungeon Defenders is a hybrid multiplayer video game developed by Trendy Entertainment. The game was released on Microsoft Windows, Xbox, iOS, Mac OS, Linux, etc. Here’s how to play the game on Linux.
Getting Dungeon Defenders to work on Linux
Dungeon Defenders is a native Linux game, but the native version of the game works poorly. So those looking to play Dungeon Defenders should use Proton.
To use Proton for Dungeon Defenders, you must install the Linux version of Steam. You can make the Steam app work on Linux through the official Linux version.
Instalar Steam
Installing Steam on Linux requires the terminal. To open a terminal, press Ctrl + Alt + T on the keyboard. Or search for “Terminal” in the application menu and run it that way.
Ubuntu
Installing Steam in Ubuntu is very easy, since it is included in the official sources of the software. To make it work, enter the fit to install command below.
sudo apt install steam
Debian
If you want to use Steam on Debian, you will need to download the official DEB package from Valve. To download the package, use the following wget download command below.
wget https://steamcdn-a.akamaihd.net/client/installer/steam.deb
When the package file is downloaded to your computer, the installation can begin. Using the dpkg command then install the latest version of Steam.
sudo dpkg -i steam.deb
After setting up the Steam DEB package on your computer, you will need to correct any dependency errors that may have occurred during installation.
sudo apt-get install -f
Arch Linux
Steam is available on Arch Linux through the “multilib” software repository. In order for it to work on your computer, you will first need to enable the repository.
To enable the “multilib” software repository on your computer, open the /etc/pacman.conf
file with your favorite text editor (as root). Once open, search for “multilib” and remove the # symbol in front of it, as well as the lines below.
After editing, save your edits and close the editor. Then use the pacman -Cause command to resynchronize Arch with official software repositories.
sudo pacman -Syy
Finally, install the Steam application.
sudo pacman -S steam
Fedora / OpenSUSE
Steam works on both Fedora and OpenSUSE using software repositories included with the operating system. However, Steam works best with Flatpak on these operating systems, so we suggest using the Flatpak version instead.
Flatpak
In order for Flatpak to work on Linux, you will install the Flatpak runtime and configure the Flathub app store. Getting the Flatpak runtime is relatively easy. To do so, follow our guide on the subject.
After setting the runtime, you will be able to get the Flathub app store working. Using the remote flatpak-add command then configure Flathub.
flatpak remote-add --if-not-exists flathub https://flathub.org/repo/flathub.flatpakrepo
Finally, configure the Steam application using the flatpak installation command below.
flatpak install flathub com.valvesoftware.Steam
