But is it really possible to record iPhone calls? You just need to install an app to do it. And to stay clear of any legal obstacles, always make sure everyone on call is aware of and agrees to be registered. There are numerous apps to record iPhone calls, but only one offers the ability to record iPhone calls for free: Google Voice. Be aware, though, that Google voice only records incoming calls, so you can’t record a call initiated from your phone. And if you don’t like Google Voice, there are many others with other features.

How to record phone calls with iPhone via Google Voice

If you don’t have a Google Voice number, start by requesting one. Go to the Google Voice web page and, logged in with your Google account, follow the instructions to choose a phone number of the city or area code you want. Install the Google Voice app on your iPhone and complete the setup with your new Google Voice number.

Once you’ve set up Google Voice on your phone, go to the Google Voice webpage and click the Settings icon at the top of the screen. In the Calls section, make sure “Incoming Call Options” is activated. Now, to record a phone call on the iPhone. Receive a call using the Google Voice app on your iPhone. Remember that you cannot record outgoing calls, so if you want to record a call you will need to ask the other party to call you using your Google Voice number.

After answering the call, press “4” on the keypad. You will hear a message informing you that the call is being recorded. If you only want to record part of the call, press “4” a second time to stop recording. If not, the call will be recorded until you hang up. End the call as usual.

The recorded call will appear in the Google Voice answering machine. To save the recording to your computer as an MP3 file, go to the Google Voice web page and click the voicemail icon in the navigation bar on the left side of the screen. Click the voicemail box, then click the three dots on the right side of the screen. Choose “Download” and save the file to your computer.

How to record a call with iPhone via third party app

Google Voice is certainly a bit convoluted and only works with incoming calls. If you prefer, there are apps you can use to record outgoing iPhone calls, in a nutshell when you call. In general, most apps work much the same way – to record a call, you need to set up a 3-way conference call between your iPhone, the recording app’s recording center, and the party you’re calling.

The best option available right now for free call recording, for both incoming and outgoing calls, is an app called Rev Call Recorder. This service is completely free and has no restrictions on the number of minutes you can record. It is currently only available for iPhone, not Android. Other apps to record incoming calls than outgoing ones include TapeACall Pro (€ 10.99) and Call Recorder Pro (€ 10 for 300 minutes, then additional in-app purchases).

Call recording (recording time available through in-app purchases) works differently. It only records outgoing calls and you need to make the call directly from the app itself. But the app records iPhone calls on the device, rather than saving it to a remote server.
