MOSCOW, 14 Oct — PRIME. The introduction of a ceiling on the price of Russian oil at $60 proposed by Washington could lead to an increase in the cost of petroleum products in the United States itself and affect the results of elections in this country, Iranian Deputy Oil Minister Ahmad Asadzadeh said in an interview with RIA Novosti.
On Wednesday, US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen proposed a price ceiling for Russian oil at about $60 a barrel. Russian President Vladimir Putin, commenting on the West’s idea to limit prices for Russian energy resources, stated that Russia would not supply anything abroad if this would be contrary to its own interests.
“Russia’s decision under such conditions whether or not to export its oil depends on many variables, and this is not an easy decision. However, in any case, the smoke from this fire will get into the eyes of Europe and the United States, and the increase in the cost of oil due to the reduction in supply will lead to an increase in prices on oil products in the US itself, which, of course, will affect political decisions in these countries and may affect the election results in them. These countries must understand the consequences of their actions,” Asadzade said.
