Law on digital securities expected in April

Sony Financial Ventures, part of the Japanese conglomerate Sony Corporation, has invested a “six-figure” amount in security technology provider Securitize tokens.

The investment is an extension of Securitize’s latest $ 14 million funding round. This was attended by Japanese giants MUFG Innovation Partners and Nomura Holdings, among others.

Japan is expected to amend its law on crypto assets in April 2020. Domingo noted that the amendment refers in particular to the Law on Settlement of Funds and the Financial Instruments and Exchange Act (FIEA). They will improve the regulations on initial coin offerings (ICOs) by applying securities regulations in accordance with the FIEA.

The changes apply when an ICO is an investment program that distributes profits from issuers to investors.

“These security tokens (STO) offers will be subject to disclosure requirements. The issuers or brokers dealing with the STO will be subject to the registration requirements under the amended FIEA ”,

added Domingo.

Junji Nakamura, director and board member of Sony Financial Ventures, said Securitize is “exploiting blockchain technology to create a new asset class with amazing capabilities.”

Securitize also received a seven-figure investment from SBI Investment in Japan in November. In total, the company has raised over $ 30 million in funding to date.
