Nvidia in most graphics cards – takes market share from AMD

Traditional graphics cards are no longer a matter of course in desktops. Processors with integrated graphics are on the rise and a bright future is predicted, much thanks to the lower cost. However, the old plug-in cards are not fully calculated, but AMD and Nvidia continue to compete for customers.

Analysis firm Jon Peddie Research compiles statistics for the fourth quarter of 2011 and the report shows that Nvidia has a reassuring lead of as much as 63.4 percent of the market – an increase of 3.7 percentage points on a quarterly basis. The main competitor AMD loses to 36.3 percentage points (-3.6%) while other players account for a few meager per mille.

In the fourth quarter of 2011, 16.1 million graphics cards were delivered, a decrease of 6.5 percent from the previous quarter. Despite the gloomy future prospects, the loss is smaller than for the graphics market as a whole, which also includes integrated graphics components, which decreased by 10.4 percent in the same period.
