RTX 3070 vs 3080 vs 2070 Super: Specs | Hashrate| CPU | Config and their performance to come pare which is better or should we ask- Which is Best?

As we had already mentioned in our previous comparison, where we only examined the RTX 3080, new NVIDIA video cards have forcefully entered the GPU market, with the aim of making 60 fps in 4K a reality, even for those who don’t want to spend crazy bucks on a video card.

In the high end we have already seen how the 3080 is a better solution than the old RTX 2000, which cost a lot and offer less, but the same reasoning can also be done in the medium-high range? Is the 3070 also cheaper than the RTX 2000? Most importantly, can the new NVIDIA solution compete against its big sister 3080? To answer these questions we have created this article, where we compared two of the new NVIDIA video cards and the mid-high-end GPU of the last series.

Let’s start by comparing the data sheets of the three GPUs, already reading them you can notice the differences that we will deepen better below the table.

The RTX 3070 and 3080 are both based on the new Ampere architecture: This new architecture obviously improves the overall performance of video cards that rely on it, but the main aspect is which allows you to better manage technologies such as ray-tracing, which will become very important in the coming years, and those based on AI such as DLSS.

After comparing the data sheets of the three GPUs, let’s move on now to the second battleground, the most important one, namely i test in-game. obviously these video cards aim for 4K, for this we have also carried out tests at high resolutions where all three are really put to the test.

Test in 1080p

1080p is handled very well by all three video cards even at maximum settings. The RTX 3080 is the best with an average advantage of 15-20% on the RTX 3070, detached the 2070 Super which is 20-25% less performing than the 3070. Considering that the 3070 and the 2070 Super are sold at similar prices, the performance difference between these two cards video is not negligible.

Test in 1440p

1440p is also a resolution that all three video cards can handle in almost all games, only the 2070 Super starts to have some problems in very demanding games like AC: Odyssey. Also in this case the 3080 wins with a performance advantage always around 20% compared to the 3070. The gap between the 3070 and the 2070 Super also remains almost unchanged.

Test in 4K

We finally arrive at the resolution that seriously tests these three video cards, 4K. As you can see for yourself, the 3080 manages to deliver 60 fps in all circumstances, the 3070, instead, had some trouble in a very heavy game like AC: Odyssey. We can generally say that both GPUs manage to deliver 60 fps in 4K, with the 3080 which, however, unlike its younger sister, manages well even poorly optimized games like Odyssey. The gap between the 2070 Super and the 3070 increases, with the latter that it is also 30% more performing than the video card of the old series. The 2070 Super still manages to keep 60 fps in several games.

Test Ray Tracing

We conclude the tests by seeing performance of the three video cards activating ray tracing: the 3080 loses around 40% of the fps but it still manages to offer performance close to 60 fps; the 3070 has a similar performance loss to that of the older sister and fails to offer 60 fps with ray tracing active, the worst is the 2070 Super that has a loss of more than 50% and with ray tracing on, it can’t even keep up to 30 fps. This test shows us that ray tracing is still a very heavy technology, but certainly within a year the situation will change and video cards like the 3070 and 3080, designed to make the most of this type of technology, will be able to improve their performance. . The 2070 Super will also benefit from improved ray tracing efficiency, but compared to the new series video cards it is at a disadvantage in supporting these new technologies.

It should not be underestimated the DLSS, that will allow you to better manage 4K and technologies such as ray tracing, from what we know NVIDIA already has important innovations in the pipeline for this technology, so we are confident that it will be widely used in the future.

Conclusions: Which is the best between RTX 3070, 3080 and 2070 Super?

The test results essentially tell us two things: the RTX 3080 costs more but that extra money, if you want the best, I’m definitely I special given the difference in performance with the 3070; between the 2070 Super and the 3070 the latter is the best solution: for a practically the same price, we have a video card that manages to offer us 60 fps in 4K in most games, even ray tracing, waiting for a more widespread use of DLSS, is managed better than the old series GPU .

In conclusion, which of these three video cards do we recommend? We definitely recommend that you focus on the new series, the choice of which to take between the 3070 and the 3080 is up to you: the 3080 costs more but is worth the extra money spent, at the same time the 3070 is less performing but still manages to run many titles at 60 fps in 4K and it is always based on Ampere, with all the advantages that this entails. The choice in conclusion it depends on how much you can spend and what kind of performance you want.

Maybe you already have an RTX 2000 and you’re wondering: “Do I really have to spend hundreds of euros again to get a video card?”, The answer is, even in this case, it depends: as you could see, the 2070 Super can handle well many games in 4K, in our opinion so if you already have a RTX 2070 Super, or a more performing RTX 2000, you can also wait to buy a new GPU, maybe you could upgrade your video card in a year or two.
