We continue with the Silverstone products with this time an entry-level oriented case with a recommended price of around 50 € TTC but with rather tempting arguments for a product of this type such as removable dust filters and foam on the side panels, the top and the front too often absent on the boxes of this price.
Let’s see what this PS11-Q has in store for us right away!

Specification: Hashrate – Silverstone PS11-Q

The Silverstone PS11-Q is a rather compact mini tower case, with 48.1 cm in length, 42.65 cm in height and 21.53 cm in width, the emphasis has therefore been placed on compactness, we are here in the dimensions of a case micro-ATX while the PS11-Q is ATX compatible. Compactness does not rhyme with small components, however, because it will be possible to install a graphics card up to 41 cm and a cooler for the processor of 16.1 cm maximum, in other words that it will be possible to install it. heavy!

The functionalities are not however put aside either, in addition to the hard disks 3.5 ″ with a mounting without tools, the 2.5 ″ slots in individual racks the version “Q” (for Quiet) offers foam all over the place. ‘interior (top, front and side panels).

Offered at a price of around € 50 including VAT, the PS11-Q will however have to cope with the plethora of entry-level boxes on the market, let’s see what it has in its belly!

A very classic box, with the Silverstone logo, the model of the case as well as a representation of the case and its functionalities. No frills here, just functional!

On the side we are entitled to all the technical characteristics of the beast, dimensions, component compatibility, fan locations etc.

The case is in a plastic sleeve and held in place by polystyrene.

Here is the beast! Sobriety is the key word here, for frills if not the small shiny border with the Silverstone logo on the front. At first glance, the ventilation is limited to the facade, the “Quiet” version requires! Let’s go for the owner’s turn.

On the front as I just said it is very sober, everything is plastic but not cheap, which is already a good point. 2 5.25 ″ slots as well as a removable plate at the bottom:

Under this plate there is sound-absorbing foam, and dust filters on the sides.

Under the removable plate, the 12cm fan supplied, it will be possible to install 2 fans of 14cm. On the other hand, the hard disk cage does not benefit from the air flow, which could cause them to heat up more.

On the sides no change, sobriety is once again the order of the day, the panels look like those of the PS10.

Foam inside the panels, note that they are surprisingly rigid for a case of this price.

The top, I’m not drawing you, everything is black, no space for the fans to have maximum silence.

Below a large grid serving as a dust filter, the 4 feet are unfortunately not rubber but hard plastic.

Not much to say at the back, the classic, a honeycomb grille for the 12cm fan, perforated brackets as well as 2 holes for water-cooling pipes.

Here is the interior of the beast! The design is rather classic and reflects a modern chassis, a hard drive cage at the bottom, a substantial space above the latter to accommodate larger graphics cards and grommets for storing cables. Let’s take a closer look.

5.25 ″ bays benefit from tool-free assembly, just slide the drive in and lock everything, nothing could be simpler!

For 3.5 ″ hard disks it’s easier, just push it in until you hear a click and presto it’s in place! On the other hand, there is no anti-vibration system here, the discs are in direct contact with the chassis, which will certainly not be good for noise pollution.

2 dedicated SSD slots are available.

The power supply will rest on 3 rubber pads in order to avoid vibrations and to be a little raised compared to the grid.

7 brackets are present, all fixed with black screws, all brackets are perforated to allow the air flow to pass.

Above we find a sound-absorbing foam plate, always taken for a silent case.

The internal connections are classic, the cables are unfortunately not all black!

Not a lot of details on the fans that come with the PS11-Q, we just know that it will consume a maximum of 3 Watts.

Nothing that changes from the ordinary at the back, we can just see that the space to pass the cables is rather small, fortunately the panels have a recess.

The configuration used during the tests is as follows:

A rather bulky configuration therefore due to its huge cooler and the 3 slots taken by the graphics card. The Silverstone PS11-Q will be tested once with 5V fans and once in 12V with only the SSD connected. Another test will take place at 5V with the Raptor hard drive connected, it being literally hell in terms of its vibrations, which will allow us to see the effectiveness of the silentblocs.

The assembly of the test configuration went rather well, however, you have to be careful to install the spacers before installing the motherboard otherwise the equipment will burn out, which is not really the goal!

Be careful with the 8-pin CPU cable, it must be passed BEFORE installing the motherboard, and even as it is necessary to force to align the motherboard with the spacers, the compactness of the case is not really an asset. at this level.

The front Audio cable is too short if you have a connector at the bottom left of the motherboard, it will have to be passed in the middle of the motherboard to be able to connect it, which is not really very aesthetic.

The SSD is very easily installed in its individual location.

And here is the work! One of the NH-D15 fans had to be removed because it was no longer possible to close the case.

In order to test the box, I will carry out an OCCT Power Supply test for 30mins and then take the temperatures of the main components such as the processor (average of the 4 cores), the motherboard, the graphics card as well as the hard drive.
Regarding noise pollution, I will proceed as in the file on silent PCs namely 1 statement in front, right, left, rear and above. All these tests will be done with the 6 fans set to 5V and 12V.

The Silverstone PS11-Q will face the Fractal Design Core 2500, Antec GX500 as well as the Silverstone PS10. The choice of boxes is not random, all these boxes are roughly in the same price bracket.

Repos

At rest and because of the closed structure of the case the temperatures are very logically higher than the other cases in the comparison, nothing really good recorder however with a processor at 38-39 °, a graphics card at 33-34 ° and a card mother at 40-41 °, we are still very much in the nails here.

Ambient sound level: 31dB

As far as noise pollution is concerned, it’s pretty good, the raptor makes the tower vibrate a lot, however, normal when you see that it is in direct contact with the chassis. There is not much difference between the fans set to 5V or 12V, except at the rear where we go from 36 dB to 38 dB, which is quite normal.
In 5V the Silverstone PS11-Q records the lowest noise pollution of all the boxes in the comparison, which is no small feat!

The Silverstone PS11-Q being a case oriented silence and without unnecessary openings the fans must therefore compensate for a minimalist airflow by turning slightly faster at rest, nothing serious that said with 706 RPM for the processor and 528 RPM for the card graphic.

Charge

In load, very logically the temperatures are higher than the other boxes of the comparison, always because of the orientation silence and minimalist airflow of the PS11-Q. With 75 ° for the processor and 76 ° for the graphics card in 5V (74 ° and 72 ° in 12V) the components remain however in the standards, even if one would have preferred lower.
The Silverstone PS11-B is not necessarily the best choice for a gamer configuration, an office configuration will heat much less and the temperatures would then be much more comfortable.

Ambient sound level: 31dB

In load noise from the Silverstone PS11-Q are also acceptable, everything is below 40 dB except at the rear which most certainly reflects the high RPMs of the Noctua NH-D15, due to lack of air flow and / or consequent ventilation. The raptor adds a few dB to the whole, even under load with its vibrations.

The high noise pollution at the back of the case therefore comes from the Noctua NH-D15 which runs at a speed of 1150 RPM (case fans in 12V) and 1260 RPM (case fans in 5V).

Here we are at the end of this test, what about the Silverstone PS11-Q?
Silverstone adds an entry-level case to its arsenal, this time it is oriented towards silent operation with sound-absorbing foam and a design without unnecessary ventilation. The case is very compact without sacrificing the size available for the various components such as the length of the graphics card and the height of the cooler, yet this compactness is felt during assembly with in particular the 8-pin CPU cable that will be required. must pass before putting the motherboard.

The fans supplied are very quiet and therefore blow little, the temperatures are necessarily affected and are therefore high without being alarming. Another point to take into account, the vibrations of the hard disks, in fact they are in direct contact with the frame and therefore transmit the vibrations without restraints, it will be necessary to be careful and take a hard disk that vibrates little to keep optimal silence.
Offered at a price of around € 50, the Silverstone PS11-Q will rather be designed for a silent-oriented office configuration than a gamer configuration that consumes and heats a lot.
