Switzerland buys eight gas turbines ahead of winter

GENEVA, 3 Sat — PRIME. Switzerland has purchased eight modular and mobile gas turbines to overcome a possible electricity shortage, according to a publication on the government’s website.

Germany urged to save the economy with the help of Russian gas
“The Confederation is acquiring eight mobile gas turbines from GE Gas Power. These turbines will be installed at GE’s Birr site,” the document says.
According to the information, the equipment will run on gas, oil or hydrogen. The turbines will operate from the end of this winter until May 2026. Their total capacity will be approximately 250 megawatts.
The supply contract was signed by the Federal Department for the Environment, Transport, Energy and Communications (DETEC).
Switzerland is ranked among the states most at risk in the EU for energy shortages this winter. Residents of the country have already been urged to stock up on candles and firewood in case of power outages. In addition, the authorities did not rule out that they could introduce restrictions on electricity consumption.
