Which operator has the fastest Internet – Is the actual speed of your Internet connection light years away from the one stipulated in the contract you signed with your operator? If after contacting support the situation does not go away, you could try switching providers and see what happens. How do you say? Have you already thought about it but you don’t know which offer to choose? No problem. I can suggest you which operator has the fastest Internet (at least “on paper”), pointing out the rates that currently offer the best compromise between connection power and price.
There are quite a few offers that might interest you: some relating to optical fiber, with speeds up to 200 Mega or even 1 Gigabit in download (depending on the coverage and the technology used to build the network), others to ADSL. “Traditional”, with speeds up to 20 Mbps in download and 1 Mbps in upload, and alternative solutions for those who live in areas that are not yet reached by either of the two technologies mentioned above, such as connections via satellite or LTE network.
There are also plans for mobile navigation which, thanks to the 4G network and its most recent developments, are able to guarantee more than remarkable download and upload speeds from smartphones, tablets, Internet keys and portable modems. Now, however, let’s try to go in order: let’s clarify the types of connections available, analyze their main characteristics and download and upload speeds and take a look at the best offers currently on the market. I am convinced that you will not struggle to find even someone suitable for you!
Internet connection technologies and speeds
Before discovering in detail which operator has the fastest Internet , let me give you a quick overview of the main technologies used for the distribution of the Internet connection in our area: from the one used for the use of the connection – that is, on the type of network present in the city – it depends. the speed with which we can upload and download data from the Internet.
To affect the real speed of the connection, then, there are factors such as the state of the network (which if bad does not allow the connection to travel at maximum speed), the distance from the control unit (the further we are from the control unit, the greater the “disturbances ”, So there are performance drops in the connection) and more. In any case, the first thing to look at is the type of network present in the area of your interest. Let’s start, therefore, from the fixed network .
- ADSL – generally reaches a maximum speed of 20 Mbps in download and 1 Mbps in upload. There are also many cheap plans on the market with a voluntarily limited download from the provider to 7 Mega.
- Optical fiber – optical fiber allows for download and upload speeds that are far superior to those of classic ADSL but, beware, the performance of the network is not the same in all cities (nor in all areas of the same city ). Fiber connections can be based on FTTH (Fiber to the Home) technology or FTTC technology(Fiber to the Cabinet). In the areas served by FTTH technology, the connection travels at maximum speed – we are even talking about 1 Gigabit per second in download and 200 Mbps in upload -, as the whole network is made of optical fiber. In the areas served by FTTC technology, on the other hand, it is not possible to exceed 200 Mbps in download and 20 Mbps in upload, as the connection is made in optical fiber only in the section that goes from the control unit to the street cabinet (the so-called cabinet) and then continues to the user’s home using the classic copper cable (the one also used for ADSL connections). The “hybrid” fiber and copper connections are also called VDSL. It is almost useless to point out that to use fiber connections you must have a suitable modem, which is usually provided by the provider.
As for the mobile network , without getting too technical, we can say that operators currently offer offers based on different technologies, each of which guarantees different browsing speeds: let’s see together what they are.
- 3G – guarantees a browsing speed of up to 42 Mega and, consequently, represents the minimum wage to surf the Internet from smartphones, tablets or other portable devices. It is supported by the vast majority of mobile devices currently on the market (except Wi-Fi only ones, of course).
- 4G (LTE) – is the most popular standard for high-speed mobile browsing. It allows you to have a connection up to 150 Mega. It is now supported by most smartphones and tablets on the market, while there are still some portable modems and Internet Keys that are “stuck” at 3G.
- 4G Plus (LTE Advanced) – is an evolution of 4G technology that allows connections up to 300 Mega (thanks to the combination of multiple frequencies together). It already has a good diffusion throughout Italy and is supported by a good number of devices.
- 4.5G – is a further evolution of the 4G standard, which is halfway between the latter and 5G, which is the most recent standard for connections. It guarantees connections up to 500 or even 1 Gigabit (depending on operators and coverage). Currently it is not yet widespread in Italy and not all devices are compatible with it.
- 5G – represents the latest connection standard available on the market, which guarantees a connection speed that can even reach 2 Gigabits. As a fairly new technology, 5G coverage is only available in a limited number of cities and devices that support it are still few.
Check coverage and connection speed
Before signing up for an Internet subscription with any of the providers mentioned in this post, connect to their official websites and check the network coverage (and therefore the maximum connection speed) in your area. Find out how to proceed with regard to the main Italian managers right below.
- TIM – to check the network coverage with regard to optical fiber and TIM ADSL, connect to this web page and enter your residential address in the form that is proposed to you: just fill in the Municipality , Address and Civic fields , indicate if you want a new TIM number or if you wish to keep yours and then press the Continue button . - Vodafone – to check the coverage of Vodafone’s fiber optic and ADSL network, connected to the section of the operator’s website dedicated to fixed telephony offers, identify the one you are interested in, click on the relevant Activate online button and, after specifying the your address in the appropriate text field, click on the button Check coverage and activate online . - WINDTRE – to check the coverage of WINDTRE’s fiber optic and ADSL network, connected to the operator’s website , identify the offer that interests you most, click on the relative link Check the available speed and fill out the form that is proposed to you, indicating your municipality , your address , if you already have a landline number and possibly also a mobile number , then press the Verify button . To check the coverage of the mobile network, instead, go to this other web page and type the name of your municipalityin the appropriate text field. - Fastweb – to check Fastweb coverage for optical fiber and ADSL, connect to this web page and fill out the form that is proposed to you, entering your municipality , your address , specifying if you already have a fixed network operator , any phone number and if you intend to keep it or not, then press the Check availability button . ADSL and fiber offers
Now let’s get to the heart of the real question and let’s find out, therefore, which operator has the fastest Internet. TIM
In the TIM price list there are many offers to quickly surf the Internet. Among the most complete, I point out TIM Super , which includes an unlimited Internet connection in optical fiber (up to 1 Gigabit in download and 200 Mbps in upload) or in ADSL (up to 20 Mb in download and up to 1 Mb in upload. ) and calls according to consumption, at a cost of 19 cents / min. and 19 cent. with a connection fee (in promotions, free and unlimited proposals are often offered for a defined period of time, after which a special option must be paid in order to continue using it).

Fastweb
Fastweb offers its rates both in fiber optic version (with speeds up to 1 Gigabit in download and up to 200 Mbps in upload) and ADSL (with a speed of 20 Mbps in download and 1 Mb in upload). Its most interesting plan is the one called Fastweb Casa , which allows you to get an unlimited Internet connection and unlimited calls with no connection fee to all national landlines and mobile phones.
The price of the offer also includes the FASTGate (the proprietary modem), activation and MyFastweb assistance . It should be noted that the plan can possibly be customized with the Smartworking packs , E-learning packs and Senior packs , which allow you to obtain dedicated advice and discounts for the purchase of devices to work and study from home and use the Internet in a simple way. .
There are no contractual obligations , but if you deactivate the offer, you have to pay a contribution of 29.95 euros. Furthermore, in the event of early withdrawal , penalties may be applied if the contract provides for it.

Vodafone
Even Vodafone is part of the group of operators for fast Internet that offer solutions for fiber and ADSL. As for the optical fiber, the Internet Unlimited plan should be taken into consideration , which includes the Internet connection up to 1 Gigabit in download and 200 Mega in upload (in optical fiber) or up to 20 Mega in download and 1 Mega in upload ( in ADSL), unlimited calls with no connection fee to all national fixed and mobile numbers and calls to landlines in Western Europe, the United States and Canada at 19 cents / min. and 19 cent. connection set-up.

AEOLUS
Those who live in an area that is not reached by either the optical fiber or the ADSL can consider EOLO . The operator uses a radio repeater system (BTS) to broadcast his signal and offers several very interesting Internet offers. Recently, it has also extended its connectivity to optical fiber, allowing the latter to be used in areas where there is coverage.

Vodafone is among the operators that allow you to navigate faster on the move.
