TSMC increased its chip prices by 3% for Apple, 6% for NVIDIA and 9% for AMD

We recently had the news that TSMC had announced to its clients a price increase in contracts of up to 20%. But it seems, Apple you will not suffer so much this. TSMC has raised prices for the California company just 3% as “special treatment.”

Last month’s news about the TSMC surge brought new concerns to us with the lack of CPUs, GPUs, consoles, and phones. And what is even worse, the possible rise in starting prices as a result.

But it seems TSMC does not want to hurt its main customers, with Apple being the largest of all. According to Lu Xingzhi’s analysis, Apple orders make up more than 20% of TSMC’s revenue. This would explain why Apple would only face a 3% increase while other companies would pay up to 20% more.

Reports showed that Apple ordered more than 100 million A15s from its supplier to ensure that the iPhone 13 would not suffer from a lack of stock. than other products are facing these days, like GPUs or the PS5. This without taking into account the orders that the company has made for other products such as other iPhones, iPads or Macs with processors such as the M1.

We also had the news that Intel and Apple would be the first companies to adopt TSMC’s 3nm process once the mass production phase will begin, a phase that will surely begin in the second half of 2022. Although there is a possibility, judging by some rumors, that Intel has secured most of the production capacity.

Now the question that arises is that, if all companies paid a more equal percentage, those smaller companies would not be as affected by the increase.

It remains to be seen whether the iPhone 13s and the new MacBook Pros will be more expensive, anticipating this 3% contract increase. It remains to be expected that more information is revealed in this regard within the next few weeks.
