Can’t add or change PIN in Windows 11 or 10

Windows has diversified its security features over the years, offering so many login options for billions of users. Now a glance at your smiling face or a simple touch of your finger can unlock your device. One of these login features is the Windows Hello PIN. Some users have recently faced an issue where they are unable to add or modify existing PINs in Windows! If you are also facing this issue then follow these fixes.

Steps before continuing:

You must log in to the system with your account password. To sign in, follow these steps:

a. Start Windows.

B. On the login page, choose your account and tap on the «Login Options“.

C. Next, click on the particular icon to choose to log in with your account password.

D. Simply type your account password in the box and touch the arrowhead to log in to your account using the account password.

Solution 1 – Use the installation unlock utility

You can remove the old PIN with the Unlock Utility.

Paso 1

1. First, type «cmd” in the search box.

2. Now, right-click on “Symbol of the system” and “Execute as an administrator“.

3. You must create a new administrator account. So run this command.

net user administrator /active:yes

This will create a new administrator account on your system.

Paso 2

Now, you need to use the Unlock Utility for your system and by using it you can delete the current NGC folder from your computer and create a new PIN.

1. Download the latest unlock utility.

2. After downloading the setup file, go to the download location.

4. Then select “English” and click “OK” to proceed.

5. Then follow the instructions on the screen to continue.

6. Now, select the “Advanced” installation mode.

9. Now, complete the installation by following the instructions on the screen.

Now, you can delete the NGC folder that stores the PIN related information.

1. Press the button Windows key+E keys. That will open File Explorer.

2. When the File Explorer window appears, navigate to this folder like this:

While you are going to the Ngc folder, you may not see the “Appdata” folder as it is usually hidden. So, follow these steps to show all the hidden items in File Explorer.

1. In the File Explorer screen, click on the three-bar option on the menu bar.

3. Now, in the ‘Folder Options’ window, go to the “View” section.

4. Next, check the “Show hidden files, folders, and drives” option.

6. To save this change, tap “Apply” and “OK“.

3. Now, right-click on “Ngc” folder and click “show more options“.

4. Then tap on “

unlocker” to run the unlocker.

5. In the Unlocker window, select “Erase” from the dropdown list.

6. After that, tap «OK” to proceed.

After the folder is deleted, close File Explorer. Then, restart the system, log in to the system again with your account password.

If you can’t access your account with your old password, you can use the administrator account to log in that you created in the first step.

Now try adding a new PIN.

Solution 2 – Use Registry Editor

There is a registry modification you can make to allow users to create a new PIN for your system.

1. Press the Windows key once and type «regedit.msc” in the search box on the taskbar.

2. After that, tap «registry editor» To open it.

Warning – Let’s create a new value in your registry. For device security, we recommend that you create a backup of the registry before making any changes. Just follow these steps to create a backup:

a. At first, click on the «Proceedings» option.

B. After that, tap «To export…” to create a new registry backup on your system.

Just give this backup a name and save it somewhere safe on your system.

3. When the Registry Editor window appears, go like this:

5. So, just tap on the space with the right mouse button and tap «New>” and “Valor DWORD (32 bits)“.

8. Simply set the value to “1“.

9. After that, tap «OK” to save the changes.

Close Registry Editor when you’re done. Reboot the system when you are done.

Now you can easily create a PIN for your account.

Solution 4 – Use the Forgot PIN option

If nothing works, you can reset your PIN from the login page without moving your computer.

You need to be connected to the Internet for this.

1. Once you get to the login page, tap «I forgot my PIN“.

Your Microsoft account will appear. You have to login.

2. So, enter the password of the account and touch «Check in“.

3. Your access must be verified with a 6-digit code. Faucet “Email“.

You can get the code in the email from another device.

4. Now enter the code in the appropriate location.

5. Then click “Check” to complete verification.

Upon successful verification, you will be allowed to reset your PIN.

6. Simply enter your PIN once in the box.

7. Enter the PIN again.

Once you’ve done that, you can use the new PIN to access your account again.
