Tutorial: How to export your photos from Google Photos to iCloud | IPhone messages: After launching in 2015 as free unlimited storage service and do all the marketing for these features, Google Photos is a widely used option by Apple users across all their devices. However, now this Google has announced that storage space will not be unlimited in 2021. This is a good time to consider the possibilities we have to download our photos from Google and transfer them to another such as iCloud.
While the service will not be unlimited in 2021, there is no rush to do this photo upload since then from June 1, 2021, the service is no longer unlimited. In addition, from that day on, the service will offer 15 GB of free space for videos and photos.
However, if your library is larger than 15 GB, It will be better if you plan to transfer it to a service like iCloud in case you want to keep it (which we are probably sure you want). Below we will explain the steps you need to follow to export your library from Google Photos to iCloud.
How to Export [Transfer] Google Photos Library to iCloud
Option 1 – How to download the entire Google Photos library
- You can go to takeout.google.com at download a full copy of your Google Photos library
- To export only photos / videos, click “Deselect All” on the right side of the list
- Select only Google Photos from the list of available services
- At the bottom, click on «Next step»
- Choose your export preferences (frequency, file type and size)
- Click here Create an export
- You will see the export progress and you will receive an email from Google once the process is complete. This may vary depending on the size of your library
Option 2 – How to download specific content from Google Photos
To just download specific content that may interest you from Google Photos, you can do it on photos.google.com from any computer or directly from iPhone, iPad or any other application on the device. This option will allow us to select only the content that we want to transfer to another service or just save to your download device.
From a Mac / PC on the Internet
- Go to photos.google.com and log in to your Google account
- Select the photos you want to download by selecting the circular stamp on each thumbnail
- You can select everything if you select photos in the top left corner and hold Shift and select the last video / photo from your library. It is also useful for selecting ranges.
- You can use abbreviation on the keyboard Shift + D to download them or click the button with the three circles in the upper right part and click «Download»
In the Google Photos app for iOS
- Open the Google Photos app on an iPad or iPhone
- Press and hold a photo thumbnail to select it
- Select the photos you want swiping your finger over the selected photo or clicking on the ones you want to download
- Hit the Share button at the top
- Select “Share To” at the bottom
- If necessary, send them via AirDrop or via email
How to import your photos to iCloud
After you’ve downloaded all the photos from your Google Photos library that you want to save to iCloud, we will proceed to import them in two ways: Mac or from the network
From a Mac computer
- To open it Photos app on your Mac
- Insert all downloaded photos from Google Photos. You can even drag the folder where you have them
- Click Photos in the bar at the top of the system
- Go to Preferences> iCloud> iCloud Brand Photos so everything syncs to your iPhone and iPad.
Another option that will depend on the number of photos or videos you’ve downloaded is AirDrop on an iPhone or iPad with iCloud Photos turned on. This way, once they are transferred to your device, they will be automatically uploaded to iCloud.
From the web
- bar log in to icloud.com
- Choose photos
- click on cloud icon with an arrow for uploading photos
- To find out how it’s exported from Google Photos, we won’t be able to import all the photos of one without first manipulating it all folders into which the export has been split. Therefore, the option from a Mac is much simpler, although it does depend on the number of photos you have.
