Before giving you all the explanations of the case, however, I would like to make an important clarification: at present, there are no “official” public telephone directories for mobile phones; nevertheless, independent search engines are available, often of a collaborative nature (i.e. based on feedback and voluntary contributions from users), which can be extremely useful in circumstances of this type. They can really lead to good results, especially if the numbers you are interested in refer to professionals or public services.

Having said that, I would suggest that we get straight to the heart of the matter and seriously start focusing on what to do. Make yourself comfortable, take note of the mobile number you would like to know more about and follow the instructions below step by step. Good luck for everything!

Who’s calling? is the online version of Should I Answer: app for devices Android (also available on alternative stores for devices without Play Store) e iOS which allows you to know who is calling and through which you can block unwanted calls from call centers, telemarketers and other “known annoyances”.

To use Who’s Calling? Go to his home page, write the number you want to identify in the search bar located at the top and click on the button CIRCLES. If the number you are looking for has received reports from Who’s calling? Users, you will be able to read the comments available to trace the number of your interest.

Truecaller

Another noteworthy service for what concerns the possibility of tracing a mobile number for free is Truecaller: site of the famous app for Android (also available on alternative stores to the Play Store) e iOS which allows you to block calls from “known annoyances”, as long as you accept the inclusion of your number in your public directory. It is thanks to this list that it is possible to trace the holders of the mobile numbers from the website.

In this regard, you should know that even the Truecaller site, to be used, asks you to log in with a Google account or a Microsoft account and requires the publication of your number in the public list. Take this into account – it’s a nice privacy compromise – before you make use of it. OK?

That said, to use Truecaller, connect to the service home page, write the number of your interest in the field Search a phone number… and finally click on the symbol of magnifying glass, to start the search (before doing so, you may find you need to select the country code corrected from the menu on the left).

Now, login through your account Google or your account Microsoft (if you are asked to access the contacts, do not consent) and follow the instructions you see on the screen to complete the procedure.

If the numbering you previously entered is actually present in the Truecaller list, you will be shown a specific card indicating the total number of users who have reported the number in question, the membership user and the reference address .

Google Phone app

If you have a device Android, l’Google’s Phone app it can be a great help in tracing cell phone numbers. This solution, as you can well imagine, bases its operation on the vast Google database, allowing you to obtain information on the numbers of incoming calls, as long as the Internet connection is active and the caller identification function is enabled. .

To make sure of this, after opening the app Phone, pressing the icon of white handset on blue background placed on the Home screen or in the drawer, press the i icon three vertical dots (top right) and select the items Settings> Caller ID and Spam from the menu that is proposed to you. Then, if necessary, move up ON the switch lever located next to the item View caller ID and spam.

If you want, you can even block unwanted calls by flicking to ON the switch next to the item Spam filter for calls. Useful, right?

Tellows

In an article dedicated to how to trace a mobile number for free, it certainly deserves to be mentioned too Tellows. It is another collaborative Web service that can be used without registration through which unknown telephone numbers can be identified, primarily those coming from call centers, telemarketers and other “spammers”; all thanks to the comments of users who have already received calls from the numbers in question.

To use it, connect to the Tellows home page, fill in the field enter your number with the number you would like to have more details about and press the button Research.

If the service is able to identify the number entered, you will be shown some information relating to it and the comments made by other users. Eventually, you can also give your contribution to the Tellows community by leaving a textual comment or by giving a vote from 1 (very serious) to 9 (dangerous) to the number that contacted you.

White pages

Another solution available thanks to which you may be able to find a free mobile number is the site of the “very classic” White pages. It is, as can be easily deduced, the digital transposition of the famous paper almanac through which it is possible to access in a few clicks a telephone directory including all mobile phone numbers (and possibly also landlines) of professionals and companies.

To use it, go to the main page of the service, write the number you are interested in looking for in the text field Telephone number and finally, click on the button search for, in order to start the search. On the page that opens, you should see information about the number you searched for (as long as it is public).

To perform the reverse search, instead, click on the tab Name O address, based on the data you have available, fill in the text field you see on the screen with the requested information and click once again on the button search for.

I would like to point out that the service is possibly also usable from smartphones and tablets, in the form of a free app for devices Android (also available on alternative stores for devices without Google services) e iOS / iPadOS.

Yellow Pages

Yellow Pages, the Web version of the paper book of the same name, allows you to easily find the mobile phone numbers of professionals and companies.

How to use? First, go to hers home page, make sure the tab is selected telephone number (on the right), write the number you want more information about and start the search by clicking on magnifying glass (on the right). If details are available about the number you are looking for, they will be shown to you on the new page that has opened.

Other solutions to trace a mobile number

There are also other solutions to trace a mobile number. Try the ones listed below and see if they can help you in your “investigations”.

• WhatsApp (Android/iOS/Online/Windows / macOS) – a smart move to trace the owner of a mobile number is to save it on WhatsApp: if the number is associated with an account on the famous messaging platform, analyzing the profile photo (if visible to all) and other information (such as profile info), you may be able to figure out who the number belongs to.
• Whooming – it is a free (basic) service that uses the call forwarding technique to find out who is really hiding behind that “private number” or “unknown number” from which you have received one or more calls. It is very simple to use, it works with all carriers and with any mobile phone.
