How to delete a contact on WhatsApp

How to delete WhatsApp contacts on Android

If we own an Android smartphone we open the WhatsApp app for Androi, press for a long time with the finger on the chat that we want to delete, then we carry out the actual cancellation by clicking on the trash can icon, present on the top bar of the app.

Of course this only deletes the chat, but not the contact (which will remain available for new chats in the future). To completely delete a contact, press the button to open new chats at the bottom right, click on the three dots at the top and select the item Contacts. Our app will open to manage the address book, from which we can select the offending contact and delete it.
If the contact only had numbers with no name, it may be a good idea to write them down before deleting them from the address book since, in case there are so many unknown numbers, it could become a challenge to recognize the one to be deleted.

How to delete WhatsApp contacts on iPhone

Its an iPhone the procedure is very similar, only the interface actually changes. For delete a contact on WhatsApp for iPhone open the app, let’s go to the menu Chat at the bottom we scroll on the chat from right to left, we press on the voice Other and finally we press on delete chat the first time and on delete chat in the new screen.

The chat with the contact will no longer be displayed, but we can still add it by mistake; to permanently delete it from our phone we open the app Contactstap on the name or number of the contact, select the Edit item at the top right and finally scroll through the new screen until you find the item Delete contact. In this way the number will be deleted from the address book and will no longer be able to appear among those available on WhatsApp.

Delete a contact from a WhatsApp group

Is the contact to be deleted present in a group? In this case we can intervene by eliminating it from the group, but only if we are the administrators of the same. First we open the group in which the contacts to be deleted are present, press on the three dots at the top right and then the item Group info; scroll down the screen until you find the section where the participants are present, with the administrators at the top (if we are among the latter, we can delete the contacts from the group without problems).
To delete a contact from the group we remain in the participants section of the screen Group infowe keep our finger pressed on the contact or number to be removed then we use the voice Remove.

If the contact we intend to delete is also an administrator of the group, we can still remove it first by revoking the administrator permissions (with the entry Remove from administrators), then using your voice Remove as seen above. After removing him from the group, we can proceed to delete him as a contact by following the steps described in the first two chapters of the guide.

Block annoying contact

Once the contact has been deleted from WhatsApp and from the address book, the person will still be able to write to us if he has our number in his phone and WhatsApp address book: the changes we applied above only apply to our phone and our account!
If we want to avoid any kind of contact with this person or we want to prevent them from contacting us in the future, just take advantage of the WhatsApp contact blocking feature.
To block a known contact however, this person’s number must be present in the contacts: if we want to block a number we must therefore proceed before deleting it from the phone book. We do not apply the advice seen in the previous chapters and proceed directly with the block.
After identifying the contact to be blocked, press top right or bottom left and reach the path Settings -> Accounts -> Privacy -> Blocked contacts. From this menu we press on the top right on the symbol of the little man so as to be able to view, among the WhatsApp contacts, which one to add to the block list.

Once added to this screen, the contact will no longer be able to send us any messages, open chats or make calls: in fact it is like not having him anymore! It is also possible block an unknown number or a contact never seen in our address book: in this case we can act by opening the conversation, pressing the button with three dots at the top right, then on Other and selecting the command Block.
