Microsoft’s free Windows 11 upgrade from Windows 10 is now available. Windows 11 will require 8th Gen Intel Coffee Lake CPU or Zen 2 and above, TPM 2.0 support (Trusted Platform Module), 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage. This leaves millions of PCs unable to officially upgrade to Windows 11, although there will be unsupported workarounds if you really want to upgrade Windows 10 to 11.

1. Check compatibility

The news about the Windows 11 requirements was released in a confusing way. Before you can get the free update, make sure your current Windows 10 PC is compatible. The best way to do this is to run Microsoft’s PC Health Checker tool. Go to the Windows 11 Specifications page and scroll all the way down until you see the Compatibility Checker section. Click the Download PC Health Checker app link and install the program. 2. Check for updates

Instead of waiting for the update to reach your computer, you can use Microsoft’s Windows 11 installation assistant. Click the Accept and Install button and the Windows 11 installation will upgrade to Windows 11. You should be able to use your PC during the download and installation.

Once the installation is complete, you will be asked to restart your PC. You have the option to restart your computer immediately or wait for the 30-minute timer to finish if you need time to save some open work. After your PC restarts, you can log back into Windows. Once the final setup is complete, you will be able to use your new Windows 11 desktop.

4. How to upgrade Windows 10 to Windows 11 with Microsoft’s Media Creation Tool

Another method to upgrade Windows 10 to Windows 11 is to use Media Creation Tool from Microsoft, it is a program that allows you to create installation media for the new operating system. In click the button Download now in the section Create Windows 11 installation media. Run the MediaCreationToolW11.exe file, then accept the license terms and confirm the desired language and Windows edition. You can then choose to copy the installation files to a USB drive or generate an ISO file and burn it to a disc.

If you followed the path of the USB drive, the tool downloads the necessary Windows 11 installation files and copies them to the USB drive. Then open the drive and double-click the setup.exe file to start the update. If you want to upgrade from an ISO file, choose a location for the file and change the name to something more specific. The installation files are then saved on the PC as an ISO file. Open File Explorer, then double-click the ISO file to open it and double-click the setup.exe file.

After your PC restarts, log in to complete the setup. Depending on what you have chosen to keep, Windows may ask you to customize your privacy settings. You will then be brought to the desktop.

You can also choose a direct download of the Windows 11 ISO file. On the Windows 11 Downloads page, go to the section Download Disc Image (ISO) Windows 11 and select Windows 11 from the drop-down menu. Select the product language, click Confirmationthen click the button Download to get the ISO file. After the download, double-click the ISO file and then double-click the setup.exe file. click on Avanti on the initial installation screen to check and download any updates to Windows 11. On the screen Ready to installyou will see that Windows 11 will be installed and your personal files and apps will be kept by default.
