Radeon RX 6700 XT beats Geforce RTX 3070 – in DirectX 11

AMD did not mince words during the presentation of its upcoming mid-range graphics card Radeon RX 6700 XT. Every now and then, performance was promised in class with the Nvidia Geforce RTX 3070, but as usual, AMD had selected an average of games where the company’s own products performed well. Videocardz is now reporting on how the first 3DMark tests for the new card were leaked from China.

In a series of photographs taken on a screen from Bilibili, what is claimed to be the result of a Radeon RX 6700 XT in the Nitro + format from Sapphire is shown. The lack of images on the graphics card itself and the somewhat substandard method of reporting the results means that the authenticity of the results is easy to question, but they still paint an interesting picture.

Summary of results: Videocardz

With all the results summed up, the alleged Radeon RX 6700 XT card turns out to be a snap Nvidia and RTX 3070 on the nose – in the DirectX 11-based 3DMark subtest Fire Strike. With DirectX 12 loads like the Time Spy subtests, however, AMD’s upcoming cards seem to fall behind along with the RTX 3070, and quite rightly so when the resolution is increased to the Extreme test’s 4K.

When then AMD’s Achilles heel ray tracing mixed into the picture through the Port Royal subtest, the curtain for the Radeon RX 6700 XT is approaching, at least for comparisons with the company’s selected target from Nvidia’s catalog. The gap to big brother Radeon RX 6800 is closer to 30 percent, while RTX 3070 performs just over 36 percent better.

Other system configuration besides the Ryzen 9 5900X processor is unknown – but given that other parameters are equivalent, AMD’s upcoming graphics card for the middle class seems to have something to offer in lower resolutions and the older API DirectX 11. Whether this is a shared image in real titles remains to be seen, but AMD itself positions the Radeon RX 6700 XT as a playing card for the 1440p resolution (2,560 × 1,440 pixels).

The launch of the Radeon RX 6700 XT will be launched later this week – and availability is expected to be slim as usual.
