Review PrivadoVPN for free from premium

There are many users who ask us for information on PrivadoVPN having read and enjoyed our reviews of the other top VPN solutions on the market.

PrivadoVPN is an interesting solution that offers both a free Basic account with limitations, and a full version without. In this review we will obviously talk about both aspects.

How do we rate a VPN?

For greater clarity, we set out at the beginning of each review what we expect from a good VPN service.

For free VPN services:

  • they must offer sufficient speed;
  • they must offer a sufficient amount of data
  • they should be no logs, or at least not sell users’ browsing data.

Obviously, we expect more from paid services:

  • they must use the best security protocols;
  • they must be nologs;
  • they must offer adequate performance for streaming and downloading;
  • there must be a sufficient number of servers around the world.

Differences between the free and premium version of PrivadoVPN

The free version of PrivadoVPN is called Basic and is one of the free plans that offers more:

  • allows you to choose between servers divided into 12 cities;
  • offers 10 GB of traffic per month;
  • speed is not limited;
  • no logs.

We appreciate PrivadoVPN’s free plan because it is truly comprehensive and at the cost of limiting oneself to activities that consume a lot of data (such as downloading or streaming streams in high definition) the 10 GB offered per month is not such a low threshold.

Plus, compared to other popular free VPN services there is a solid focus on privacy, with a compelling zero logs policy.

By going to the paid plan, it offers:

  • a greater number of servers, distributed in 59 locations;
  • the ability to simultaneously use the VPN on 10 different devices with the same account;
  • faster download and upload speeds;
  • no limitations on the data exchanged.

Is PrivadoVPN safe?

The answer is yes, it is a service that offers good safety standards. The connection is guaranteed through the best VPN security protocols: IKEv2, Open VPN and WireGuard (the latter labeled as “preview” on the client).

We tested the VPN from a leak perspective (i.e. data leaks that could expose your IP address), the result was good. All the time during use, even when downloading via torrent, no leaks occurred. We did not encounter any problems even connecting with IPv6.

In terms of logs, i.e. the data that servers can keep to keep track of connections, PrivadoVPN has a solid no logs policy, so it shouldn’t keep any data on users’ browsing sessions. Furthermore, it has its registered office in Switzerland, a country that has become synonymous with safety over the years.

There is also the handy Kill Switch function, which disconnects the connection to the network if the connection to the server is lost, so that users’ addresses can never be exposed. It is recommended that you enable this feature, it can be found simply by going to the VPN client settings.

Lots of servers but it’s not the best against geo-blocking

Having a lot of fast servers is important for offering customers a good quality VPN service. PrivadoVPN offers a fair number of servers in 59 locations. So from this point of view there is little to complain.

VPNs are usually used not only to remain anonymous, but also to bypass geo-blocks. In this respect, this VPN shines little, in our test the US servers worked properly allowing the connection to the US version of Netflix, Prime Video, and Disney + with full catalog. On the other hand, we had more difficulties with the Italian server, which did not allow us to access the live broadcasts of RaiPlay and Mediaset Play surprisingly, we also had difficulties with the live broadcasts of the Swiss site RSI.

So from the point of view of circumventing territorial blocks, in the context of streaming services the service is not the best.

The performance of PrivadoVPN

PrivadoVPN Performance

From a performance point of view, according to the evidence, one cannot complain: Most of the servers tested proved to be quite fast and with fairly low pings. As usual, the performance was better with the new WireGuard protocol and with the Ikev2 protocol, and slightly worse with OpenVPN.

Connection times to servers vary, and sometimes hardly understandable they are longer than normal.

A clear client

PrivadoVPN Client

PrivadoVPN clients quite appreciated for their linearity and ease of use. On each platform, despite the lack of the Italian language, it is always immediate to orient oneself.

Particularly popular with users are the mobile versions available for Android and iOS.

Inside the client, it is easy to choose which server to connect to, also by going to the settings you can choose the connection protocol and whether or not to activate the Kill Switch function.

The price of PrivadoVPN

Conclusions

PrivadoVPN is a good solution for those looking for a VPN to browse and download safely and anonymously. It offers many servers that have good performance and does not limit downloads in any way.

This VPN is a solution that appears to perform well on the security frontshowing no leaks, supporting the best encryption protocols and the kill switch function.

Unfortunately, it is not a VPN suitable for use in an institutional setting (schools, universities, offices), or in networks where VPNs are blocked because unfortunately there is no protocol obfuscation.

Even from the point of view of streaming, the service does not shine particularlyand, with the Italian servers that are blocked by Rai and Mediaset.

In conclusion PrivadoVPN offers good value for moneywe hope it improves its limits to compete with the top solutions.
