MOSCOW, September 13 – PRIME. Member of the Federation Council Alexei Pushkov commented on the statement of the Moldovan President Maia Sandu about exorbitant prices for Russian gas. He wrote about this in his Telegram channel.
Dodon said that the worst times have come for the inhabitants of Moldova
Earlier, the President of Moldova, during a television broadcast, noted that Chisinau is negotiating every month with the Russian gas exporter Gazprom on the issue of pricing in the energy market: high spot prices have led to the fact that the country cannot pay for the import of “blue fuel”.
“He can’t pay Sandu — let him (Russian — ed.) not buy gas. Better buy liquefied “molecules of freedom” from the United States or ask for gas for next to nothing from his native Romania,” Pushkov writes.
Against the backdrop of high gas prices, Moldova found itself in a situation of an energy and economic crisis. Politicians in the republic’s capital are working to provide the population with firewood, coal and fuel oil.
In October 2021, Gazprom and Moldovagaz, after lengthy negotiations, managed to agree and extend the contract for the supply of gas for the next five years. The parties agreed on a price formula that takes into account the conjuncture of the European spot (short-term) market. At that time, the Moldovan authorities hoped that this would save money when buying raw materials, but the situation changed dramatically and it was the link to the spot that increased payments for end consumers by several times.
