MOSCOW, 29 Aug — PRIME. The place of the Swedish manufacturer of telecommunications equipment Ericsson leaving Russia will be taken by Chinese ZTE and Huawei, Russian operators will only have to resolve the issue with the supply of telecom equipment on an ongoing basis, Lev Frenkel, CEO of R-Style Softlab, shared his opinion with RIA Novosti.
Earlier on Monday, Kommersant, citing sources in the telecommunications market, said that Ericsson would close its representative office in Russia by the end of the year and lay off all employees. The company confirmed to the publication that in the coming months they will gradually curtail activities in the Russian Federation, promising financial and social support to employees.
“Ericsson is one of the largest suppliers of equipment for telecom operators. In the domestic market, the share of the Swedish company is 20%. Previously, the company was one of the leaders in the Russian market, sharing the championship with the Finnish Nokia. However, the positions of European companies were gradually crowded by the Chinese Huawei …. The place of the departed European companies will be occupied by Chinese manufacturers, Huawei and ZTE,” the expert believes.
According to Frenkel, operators will need to “resolve the issue of the uninterrupted supply of Chinese equipment in order to prevent network degradation.” The expert explained that the equipment produced by Ericsson is used both for the development of networks, the deployment of new generations of communications, and to support the current regional coverage.
Ericsson Corporation JSC was established in 1994. The company has 565 employees. And the share of Ericsson in the Russian market of telecommunication equipment is about 20%. Ericsson worked in the Russian Federation with the largest telecom operators. After the start of the military operation in Ukraine and the imposition of international sanctions, the company announced the cessation of supplies to the Russian Federation.
