TowelRoot, APK para rootear «cualquier» Android 4.4.2 o inferior

How to root Android phone 4.4.2 or older! – Take a look at these tips, tricks, and solution you can use to make your life much easier with your devices whenever problems arrive and complications which you may find difficult to deal with.

Initially, to root an Android phone or mobile it was necessary to use a PC or computer and use programs such as Kingo Root. Shortly after, “one-click applications” or APKs appeared that allowed us to root from the same device, something that made the process much faster and easier. One of the most famous is TowelRoot (“toguel root”)

Like Framaroot or KingRoot, TowelRoot is an APK file that can be installed on the device to be rooted, like any other APK, to root it in a matter of “one click or one tap”. The developer of this Android application is “GeoHot”, a hacker widely known for hacking the PS3 and bringing the jailbreak to the iPhone.

What devices does TowelRoot work with?

This tool is no longer in development, so it probably won’t work with current Android devices. GeoHot indicates that it is possible that it works with any Android that has a Kernel version prior to June 3, 2014. Basically, any mobile launched before June 3, 2014 or that has a version lower than Android 4.4.2 it should be able to root with Towelroot. In case you have Android 5 or 6 you should take a look at CF Auto Root.

You can check the date of the Kernel that your Android has in Settings> About device. In my case, my Samsung Galaxy S3 mini -Android 4.1.2- with Kernel date “Aug 5 (KST 2013)” should be “rootable” with this TowelRoot application from GeoHot.

For example, TowelRoot is proven to work on AT & T’s Samsung Galaxy S5, Verizon’s Galaxy S5 (which are bootloader-locked devices), Galaxy S4 Active, Nexus 5, and apparently Nexus 4 as well. Note 3 from AT&T and Verizon.

How is TowelRoot used?

Download the APK from its official website towelroot.com (Right click on the big inverted “Y” and then choose “Save link as”). Next, copy the APK to the phone and install it like any other APK file (you must have previously activated the installation from unknown sources in Settings> Security). Once installed, open the app and tap on the “make it ra1n” button to start rooting.

Disadvantages, risks, dangers

If you are not very aware of what root is, you should read this page. Although it can expand the possibilities on your device, rooting with TowelRoot will alter the Android system partition, causing even a factory reset to return it to its original state. You need a backup of the Android system to reverse the changes TowelRoot makes. GeoHot also claims that the app will void the warranty on a Samsung device with the Knox security system activated.
