Let’s say you installed Chrome on your system and set it as the default browser. For some reason, you uninstall this browser from your system. However, you forget to set an app as your default browser. In this case, the above error appears.
Possible causes of this error are:
- Changes to default settings for Edge and Outlook.
- Changes in the association of HTML files.
- Removal of Internet Explorer from optional features.
In this article, we have listed some solutions to overcome this error.
Solution 1 – Set the HTML file association using the registry
1. Open the Run dialog box using Windows + R.
2. Type regeditar and hit Get into.
3. In the UAC window that appears searching for permissions, click Yes.
4. The Registry Editor window opens.
Note: It is recommended that you back up your registry keys before making any changes. Editing the registry is risky and could harm your system with the slightest mistake. To back up, go to File > Export > Give a desired name > Save.
5. In the search bar at the top, copy and paste the following.
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT.html
6. On the right side, double click about him (Default) wrench.
7. Set the value to archivo html.

Solution 2 – Make sure Internet Explorer Mode is present in Optional Features
Although Internet Explorer is not widely used, uninstalling Internet Explorer mode is known to cause this error.

2. Type the command ms-settings: and press Get into.
3. From the left side, click Applications.
4. On the right side, choose Optional features.
5. Under Installed Features, make sure you can see Modo Internet Explorer.
6. If you cannot find the function in the list, click the See features button.
7. The Add an Optional Feature dialog box opens. Search for Internet Explorer mode and install it on your system.
Fix 3: Make Outlook the default app for Mail
1. Open Run Dialog using Windows + R.
2. Type ms-settings: default applications and press Get into.
3. In the search box, type Mail and press Get into.
4. Make sure the default app used is panorama.
5. If not, click the arrow mark next to it, choose Panorama, and click it’s fine.
Solution 4 – Reset Edge to default and make it the default browser.
Some users reported that resetting Edge fixes the issue for them.
1. Abra Microsoft Edge.
2. In the top bar, copy and paste the location below.
edge://settings/resetProfileSettings
3. Click Restart.
4. Open Edge and copy and paste the following into your browser’s search bar.
edge://settings/defaultBrowser
5. Click on the make default button.
