How to import contacts from macOS to Outlook

This article explains how to export your contacts to the Contacts app on a Mac and import macOS contacts into Outlook. It also contains tips for using your Mac contacts with Outlook. The instructions in this article apply to Outlook 2019 for Mac and Outlook 2016 for Mac.

How to import contacts from macOS to Outlook for Mac

If you’re using a Mac and want to use your Contacts address book with Microsoft Outlook, export the people list to a VCF file, and then import the file into Microsoft Outlook so you can use your contacts in that email program. That is how:

1. Open contacts Where Laptop of addresses

Note: If you don’t want to export the entire list, select the contacts you want to export.

2. Go to Archive > Export > export vCard or drag all contacts of the list Banda to your office

Note: If you don’t see All Contacts, select Show > show groups.

3. Close the open Contacts window and open Outlook.

4. Select People Where contacts.

5. Drag and drop the file All contacts.vcf from the desktop (created in step 2) to the root category of the address card.

Note: Make sure the plus sign ( + ) appears when you hover over the file above the Address Book category.

6. Delete the VCF file from your desktop or copy it somewhere else to use as a backup.

More tips for using macOS Contacts with Outlook

Outlook for Mac automatically creates and assigns categories if your address book contacts are grouped together.

To prevent notes and photos from being saved to the VCF file, go to contacts > preferences > vCardthen uncheck the box Export notes to vCards and the box Export photos to vCards.

Use macOS contacts with Outlook

Advice: You can also use this VCF file to convert your macOS contact list to a CSV file.

If in step 2 you choose Archive > Export > Archive contacts, the contacts are exported as ABBU file instead of VCF. Use the ABBU format to import contacts back into a macOS app.
