How to delete Thumbs.db file in network folders in Windows 11, 10
Windows Explorer creates a hidden system file called Thumbs.db in all folders containing video and image files. The extension database stands for database. Then Thumbs.db it’s basically a database file that contains the images in the folder you’re viewing, but the images would be the size of a thumbnail. Even if you delete these files, Windows Explorer will create them again. Although this is a great feature to improve system performance and user experience, when it comes to network folders, this can create some issues.
In this article, we explain through 2 different methods how you can easily disable or remove the Thumbs.db file in network folders on your Windows 11/10.
Method 1: Through the local group policy editor
Paso 1: Press the keys Earn + R at the same time to bring up Run dialog box.
Once it opens, type gpedit.msc and hit the Get into wrench.
Paso 2: When the Local Group Policy Editor the window opens, surf to the next location double clicking each folder along the way.
User Configuration --> Administrative Templates --> Windows Components --> File Explorer
Once you’re in the File Browser folder, in right side of the window, you will see a setting called Disable thumbnail caching in hidden thumbs.db files.
double click in this entry to edit your settings.
Paso 3: About him Disable thumbnail caching in hidden thumbs.db files properties window, choose the radio button corresponding to the option Activated.
Hit the Apply button and then the OK button.
That’s it. Easy reboot your machine for the changes to take over.
Method 2 – Via Registry Editor
This method involves making changes to registry entries. Since incorrect registry settings can cause a highly unstable machine, it is recommended that you back up your registry settings before proceeding with this method.
Paso 1: Press the keys Earn + R to throw the Run window.
Write regeditar and hit the OK button to start the registry editor window.
Paso 2: Once Registry Editor starts, copy and paste the next location in navigation bar and hit the Get into wrench.

As following, the right button of the mouse about him Windows folder, click New and then click the Wrench option.
Paso 3: The right button of the mouse on the newly created key, and then click the Rename option.
Stage 4: Name the newly created key as Explorer. Make sure the newly created Explorer key is the key selected by clicking on it.
now in the right side of the window, the right button of the mouse in an empty space, click New and then click Valor DWORD (32 bits).
Paso 5: Name the newly created value as DisableThumbsDBOnNetworkFolders. Can rename the key by clicking the key and then pressing the F2 wrench.
When the DWORD properties window opens, set the value to the value data field to 1 and hit the OK button.
That’s it. don’t forget about restart the computer for the changes to take over.
