How to Disable Microsoft Telemetry Compatibility Service to Reduce Disk Usage

Microsoft Compatibility Telemetry (CompatTelRunner.exe) High CPU and Disk Usage

Method # 2 – Block Telemetry Using Registry Editor

The above rule from the gpedit.msc tool can be forcibly changed. All you have to do is use the Registry Editor. To do this, press the Windows key + R key combination and then enter the following command in the startup window:

freeze

After confirming the command with the OK button, the registry editor window will appear. On the left side of the Registry Editor window, you will find a list of keys (folders). Deploying them one by one, go to the next path:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Policies \ Microsoft \ Windows \ DataCollection

Right-click the DataCollection key and select New> DWORD (32-bit) Value from the drop-down menu .

A new entry will be created on the right side and you can give it a name. Give it the following name:

AllowTelemetry

Confirm the name assignment with the Enter key. In the list, you will see your entry named AllowTelemetry. Double-click the left mouse button to open the edit window for the value of this record and make sure that the value is entered in the “Value data” field “0”.
