How to Disable Microsoft Telemetry Compatibility Service to Reduce Disk Usage

Microsoft Compatibility Telemetry (CompatTelRunner.exe) High CPU and Disk Usage

3. Change the settings under Diagnostics and Feedback.

The next part of the steps will focus on configuring or disabling settings related to the Microsoft Compatibility Telemetry service. First, let’s start by changing the amount of diagnostic data sent to Microsoft’s servers. Occasionally, the settings may choose to send broader data logs, including applications and features, and advanced error reporting that can cause higher resource consumption. Therefore, changing this option to a baseline data collection plan can make your system easier to operate. This is unlikely to solve the problem completely, but it will still help improve performance slightly.

  1. Open up Options as we did in the very first method above. Then select Confidentiality and go to Diagnostics and reviews on the left pane.
  2. Make sure the option Mandatory diagnostic data selected. If not, just tap on it to turn it on.

Now you can close all windows and see the result. If nothing has changed, you can proceed to completely disable the CompatTelRunner.exe service.
